The Globe Of The Month for April is any globe that isn't round. That means Standard Crowns, Shell Clams, Cities Service Clovers, Phillips Shields, ovals, or whatever oddball shaped globe you happen to have. I sat down at my computer at 10:30PM to post some pics and promptly fell asleep. Its now 1:00AM so the pics are going to have to wait.

This globe is one of the most rarest, three sided, from the Grade gasoline company, a part of Seaside from @ 1912 to 1922 , when two of there three companys became one, the pump company stayed seperate then changed the name, the Grade gasoline co. and the Seaside petroleum co, became one and opened there first two stations in Ventura ,Ca, and continues as the Seaside oil Co. theres only three of these globes known.

Super globe John!
Phillips used this globe from 1953 until 1959 when they quit using globes.

Here's one from my collection.
It's from Standard Oil Conpany (Ind). Solite one piece raised letter crowns were used from 1926-32. This one is missing the dark blue paint. Most everyone thinks these globes were just blue and white. There are at least two original raised letter red and white Solite globes. I passed on one because I thought it was a fake or had been repainted. I later found out from a much more knowledgeable collector that there were red solite globes. They were probably mistakenly painted red.

Pumpman,
Any crown with a 6 inch base is a repro. Now some are being repopped with a 7 inch base. Be careful out there!

Here are a few ovals.

The North Star is from Oskey Brothers Petrolium headquartered in St. Paul,MN. It dates from 1965-80.

The Platolene 500 globe is from R.J. Oil of Terre Haute,IN. Its from the 60's.

The Hicksatomic globe is from Hicks Gas and Oil. The globe book says this globe was used from 1964-70, but I remember some stations using these globes well into the 1980's.

Anyone have a Shell or Super Shell they can post? How about some Cities Service clovers? More ovals? What about the various Standard Crowns? There are alot of odd shaped globes out there. Lets see some posted here!

Cool globe Bobby. I really like those ovals. You're right. Phillips bought Paraland. There is another version of Paraland's oval globe that has a thin black line on the top and bottom of the white band across the center. Both versions were used from the mid 50's through 1970.
Thanks for posting this globe.

Pretty cool display Dick.

Super Shell Ethyl is from the 1930-40 era, and is rare.

The very familiar Shell clam globe was used from 1925 until Shell quit using globes in '57.

I'd guess the Dick's Shell is a one of a kind. Haha. Pretty harmless way to modify a globe.

Thanks for posting!

Great globes guys!

The Flame is from Standard (Ind) or one of it's affiliates (American,Amoco,Pan-Am,Utoco). It was used from 1946-61.

Gold Crown was Standard's premium gasoline fron '56-'61.

Blue Crown was used from '32-'48.

The Red Crown Ethyl was used from the late 20's to the early 30's. (There is also a version of the "Red Crown Ethyl" that is painted red like a common Red Crown and has white raised letters).

The Zephyr oval is from J.D. Street. It was from the '65-'75 era.

I don't have any info on Hubba's Shell clam. I'll keep looking. If anyone has more info on this globe please email me.

Thank you Dick and Hubba for sharing these globes.

Someone sent me some pictures of three great globes I'll try to get posted in the next couple of days. I just got another oval yesterday I'll post too.
Keep those globes coming guys!
Bob

This super rare Roosevelt globe was also sent in by the Hop's. This awesome globe was used by the Roosevelt Oil Company from Mt. Pleasant,Michigan. It dates from the 1932-46 era.

Lonnie and his son Aaron are two of the best people in the hobby. Lonnie's "Globes On A Budget" series in CTO helped transform globe collecting as a hobby to an obsession for me! Thanks for sharing these amazing globes.

my shell globes on the shelf are all foreign. The blue Super Shell on the right came from Switzerland. The others are from England. The second from the right is pre-war and the rest are after WWII the way I understand it. The one on the extreme left barley showing says Shell Economy. Of course
the one on the pump is good ol USA. Thanks for posting the pictues and letting my share otherwise whats the sense in wasting all this money if no one sees it.

Rex sent in this D-X globe with the rare rocket attachment. This globe would have been in use from '55-'57. (I know it's a round globe, but with the attachment it qualifies as an odd shaped globe).

Thanks for submitting this rare globe Rex.

There are still a bunch of odd shaped globes not pictured. Anyone have a Mileage or Western trapazoid shaped globe? How 'bout some Vickers globes?
Bob

Here are some globes that Rex submitted. I'll post info on them later.

This one isn't a gas pump globe, but it's pretty cool.

The Payless Extra Special globe was used from '60-'65. Payless was bought out by Ashland.
Mileage was a Conoco affiliate. This globe dates from the 60's.

The Power Triangles are from Europe and printed inside is "This Globe is the property of National Benzole".

Western was a Conoco affiliate. This globe is from the 60's.

Thanks for sending in these pictures Rex. I really like the Payless , Western and Mileage globes!

Keep those odd shaped globes coming!
Bob
