Well it looks as if this thread has pretty much run it's course...

So I will end it with Getty Flying A...

In 1962, Tidewater Oil decided that they needed money, immediately... As, such the Company decided to consolidate their East Coast Operations and put-out "feelers" to other Oil Company’s to see if there was any interest in their "Western Operations"?

In 1963 ESSO made a bid to acquire Tidewater's interests in the Western US... The U.S. Government balked at this and took Tidewater/Getty and ESSO to Court... By the beginning of 1965, ESSO and Getty(Getty had acquired all interest in Tidewater) lost in Federal Court and the agreement was set aside...

In 1966 Phillips 66 was able to get Federal approval for a take-over of all Tidewater Western Operations... And except for in one small area in the San Francisco Bay Area... The "Flying A" brand after over 66 years....Died without a wimper in the Western portion of the U.S.

In the Northeast; Tidewater/Getty Flying A Stations operated for a couple more years. By the end of 1969, the "Flying A" brand was gone from all advertising... And over 100 years of Oil History, was relegated to History Books and Collectors like us....
