Cars have a way of finding me; and then following me home. Bought this 1969 Cadillac DeVille convertible yesterday. It has been parked since the mid 90's. In 1969, there was only one engine available in Cadillac's; a 472 cubic inch V8 rated at 375 HP and 525 foot lbs of torque. The only transmission available was a Turbo-Matic Automatic (TH400). 0-60 in 8.1 sec, 15.9 sec quarter mile. Not bad for a 4590 lb car. At 19 feet long this car/land yacht is a beast.
Total production for 1969 was 223,237 Cadillac's built, out of which 16,445 were DeVille convertibles. That's less than 7% of total production.
They were expensive cars in their time, this convertible would have had a sticker price of $5905.00. Keep in mind that, the average annual income in 1969 was $8,550, and the median cost of a house was $15,550! Best of all, a gallon of gas was 35 cents in 1969. The 26 gallon gas tank was $9.10 to fill. It's $150.00 to fill the same tank today.
It was the ultimate American luxury car to own. Caddy's were hot and each year gaining in popularity. In 1969 Cadillac would build its 4 millionth car. A bit of history; Cadillac took 47 years to build its first million cars (1952), the second million took nine years (1960), the three million mark came just six years later (1965), and only five years to then build the four millionth car (1969).
I may have to keep this one and paint it pink. Aysha has me beat. In that, she got a pink convertible, a Viper and an electric car all before me. Beat me to those three milestones. I think, she's going to be a car enthusiast just like her daddy.
