Hi all, I recently returned from a trip to Italy and thought you might like to see what their pumps look like, here's a few pics.

same as in all gas pumps... An electrical motor, a pump, some pipes ;-)

Nichole, I didn't see one opened up but what Claes says makes sense. It seems there was always an attendant to pump the fuel and we paid inside.

It does--D'oh! I feel like a num-nut, of course it would.

It just looked like it was something that opened up, and I was thinking oil or supplies and stuff for attendants to service the car. I'm old enough to remember full service stations and European relatives who visit always comment on our self serve, so I figures they mostly had full serve....

So I guess the opening is an option for ads on some kind of stand, as the one picture shows--that or so you can smile and chat with the fella on the other side. I know there are some really friendly folk in Italy.
