Did Sinclair ever make a 12" round plate? I just read that the only round pump signs were decals. Not actual porcelain plates. Is that correct?

Being fairly new to gas and oil signs, I've tried to find pictures of old pumps, stations, and signs sold through reputable auctions to use as a basis to judge signs I was interested in. I've seen Sinclair pumps with round plates attached. Plates just like the one I've attached here.

Would a plate/sign like the one attached below be a fake?

Is there a place that outlines the general specs for a real plate or sign? It would be awesome to have a resource that you can look up and tells you what sizes a real sign would be. what sizes a real sign will not be.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

No. many companies used different plates & sizes. Most 11-3/4" plates are fake, and you can tell the ones on ebay most of the time by the seller's other or past items. However, there are legitamate plates that are 11-7/8"... so it has somewhat become difficult to tell for beginners.

Best advice I can give you is to buy only from a trusted source, someone that stands behind what they sell and has a good reputation in this hobby

It lists sizes, etc. of the most common pump plates used.

This book may also be available for sale on the old gas book store.

As Scott says; the "PCM's Guide to Gas Pump Restoration". (first and/or second edition) Is one of the "workhorse" guides in the Hobby....

The Guide(s) not only have info on pump plates; but also, ad glass and globes. Paint schemes of different Oil Companies. Restoring tips on pumps. A glossary on Motor Fuel Products. Gas pump imaging. Info on Station Ownership... etc...
