Well, actually bought and tried some Raid ant and roach. Nothing!! Is it cuz it's Raid and not the brand in the video? Who knows!

Also tried building a little damn, filling it with goo gone, letting it sit for 2 hours, rubbed like hell!! Nothing!!

Let some peanut butter sit on it all night. Rubbed like hell!! Nothing!!

While on the food kick, I actually let a drip of catchup sit on a spot all day while at work. Remembering how the acid in catchup can clean a penny. Thought it might soften it. Nothing!!

Tried lighter fluid and bunches of elbow grease. Nothing!! Started to affect paint.

Going to pick up some bug & tar on way home from work tomorrow.

Maybe I overlooked this but did anyone mention Xylene? I use it often to remove adhesive residue where lacquer thinner does nothing. You might give it a try on the finish first but it has never affected anything I have used it on. Home Depot and Lowes in the paint section. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I use WD40 to remove tape and sticker redue from my vintage beer signs, then I wipe off the WD40 with a damp cloth.

Success!! Well, more or less. Did lose a little paint.
Yesterday I bought two things. Tarminator Bug and Tar remover. And from something I saw on youtube, some mechanics hand cleaner, typically known as GoJo hand cleaner, the one I bought was made by Permatex. It has pumice in it which provided a little mild abrasive.
So I started with the bug and tar, let it sit on it for about a minute, then rubbed, and right away it was cutting through the stuff. I noticed quite a bit of yellow showing up on the rag so I only went so far with that, then turned to the hand cleaner which did a great job of taking it to the end. It too though did take up some paint. You can't see it in the photo, but there are a couple spots where the paint got a bit thin. This globe is NOS, I still have the box it came in, so this paint is who knows how old. And it's not perfect. They weren't painting these back then to look like show cars. So the paint isn't perfect anyway, so the little bit of damage that I ended up with just blends right in.
I installed the lenses as you can see and everything looks good!! Have a project I'm about to start with this special globe frame with the hole. Will post pics in a new post when finished.
So next time, I suggest going straight to the bug and tar, and maybe also or instead, just the hand cleaner.

Thanks so much for keeping us abreast of your trials. It'll save me a lot of grief down the road I'm sure.
