Guys,
Did all Fry 117's have the light arms that are attached to the globe cup, or was the pump available without the lights? Thanks.

NO. I answered this yesterday but it got deleted somehow?
You can get a 5 gallon cup “same size as the 10 but with only 2 holes” for use with out light arms on a 10 gallon 117 pump.
They did this if they did not want lights on the pump, or they did not have electricity for a globe / outside lights. Either way they still had to use the left side vent conduit or a top L vent pipe made to fit where the T pipe connector is.

Here is a link of the patent where you can see this one has no light arms - it looks to be a 5 gallon but I also saw another for the 10 gallon but can not find it right now:

Thanks for the replies! I was sure that I posted this question yesterday, but it was gone when I went back to check it later???? I've got a rough 117 that I've decided to place beside the door on my hobby garage, The Hot Rod Grille. I really don't want to have lights on the pump to attract attention (and bugs) at night.

HMMMM......that sure does look like a VENT...
on one side.
And the other sure does looks like CONDUIT...

Don't know if this will help or not, but this is what my 5 gallon Fry looks like  There is a feed conduit from the bottom of the pump that goes into a splice chamber for the wires extending out to the 2 light arms.  The green "elbow" you see is the vent for the cylinder. I know it's not the greatest of pics, but that small brass piece sitting on top of the elbow actually goes down in the elbow where it free floats to the bottom and left side of the elbow. A small brass plug then threads into the top left of the elbow to close it up. [This message has been edited by Daveb (edited 02-02-2007).]

I have yet to see one like that!
LARRY, I bet that is one of the very first patents for the Fry mae west style. I found a few others that just have the body style about that same year.

Looks like MAE was a gal who liked different hats....never seen that style before..All the ones I have seen have the "cross" inside the cup.

That vent probably is a 2 way check valve....lets air in and out only when fluid goes up or down keeping gasses from escaping when not in use

I had a top similar to that. The "cup" was part of the top with two threaded holes into it. The whole thing was cast iron. At the time I beleived it belonged to a early version of the Mae West. Sold it as it was not the one I needed for my pump.

My 10 gallon also has a solid cast top all one piece including the cup with a brass vent similar to the one shown, 2 conduits, and a cast base........Les
