Hey there Gang,
I'm sure this is a silly question but I recently bought a very nice Bennett 966 that is one of the most complete pumps I've seen (not that I'm all that experienced... LOL). I recently removed the pump and electric motor to lighten the load. Should I just junk these parts? Is there any reason anyone would want/need to hang on to them?
My thoughts were not, but I thought I would ask.
I hope to meet some folks in Evansville!
Take care!

Hey Michael I hung onto all my parts thinking the same thing and after about five years I moved and that's when they went to the dumps. I don't think anyone really cares and after all unless you are building the pump for someone who really wants all the guts I'd say toss em. If you ever move I think they would get junked about first. Personal call. Ted

Buffing motors turn at about 3300 rpm. Gas pump motors turn at about 2800 rpm. Keep the motor, throw away everything else. At large auto swap meets they sell buffing outfits (pads and rouge) for about $30.00. Probably advertised in Hemmings also. Buy one of these, put it on the motor and you have a buffing outfit worth $150.00. If you restore pumps, try cleaning up the motors, putting on the buffing pads, etc. and sell them to car restorers at auto swap meets, you should be able to get $75.00 - $100.00 for them. jack

I gave a gas pump motor to a friend, he rewired it to run either direction, then gave it back to me. I now have a motor for my 9" South Bend lathe. Although they are made to run for 30min., I have used it for over 3hrs. It gets warm. Dick

Thanks Gang! Those were my thoughts as well but I hadn't thought about using the motor for a buffing/polishing set up. Great idea Jack! Thanks! I also didn't think about the run time on that motor though either. Makes sense that since they weren't designed to run for long periods of time that their cooling would not be adequate. Thanks for the tip Dick! Wouldn't want to burn the motor up. Looks like the trash collector may have a heavy load to pick up next week! LOL Take care Gang, ------------------ Michael Botkin Bennett 966 Bowser 595 71 Mach 1 Mustang [This message has been edited by STLMach1 (edited 05-02-2003).]

Stl, They are explosion proof, so there is no venting the heat that is generated. Run it till it quits, then replace it with another. Your going to throw it out anyway. My lathe motor has lasted 10 years SO FAR. DICK

Dick, They are explosion proof! Cool... i have been wanting to get a yard barn to put next to my pole barn to paint in and wanted to put some kind of fan/vent system in there but the explosion proof fans are big $$$$$$. I am not painting in my barn anymore... Gary Drye did a nice job building an inside booth but i don't want to loose the room.
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Combine the motors with a small symer type pump and you can pump water,fuel...whatever.We used to take the motors and make pumps to pump water out of underground tanks.Since they are explosion proof it was safe to use em.
