I didn't see anything I needed at Aumann's sale Friday in Wisconsin, but looking at the sale results today I see a repop Mobilgas on wide body glass sold for $450. Yikes!! I'm sure it was announced as a reproduction, and the word 'reproduction' is pretty obvious on the lens,,,but 450 bucks?? For a catalog globe??

Ouch.

Overall I thought prices were very strong at that sale. Some items went for insanely high prices....

The VERY plain Mobilgas globe went for $700.

Then there was the Mobilgas Special........ "Mobilgas Special On Wide Glass Body lenses in poor cond. W/stains and paint loss", $900!!!!

And the fantasy Dixie globe that brought $550.

I was thinking about going, nothing I really needed. Glad I stayed home. Did anybody see the mobilgas special on wide glass, you know, the one with the washed and faded lenses..... 900.00. Must have been some mobil guys there with more money than they knew what to do with.

I saw it. I figured it was worth about $300 tops. It was a woman that bought it. She bought several items.

I wasn't at the sale Bob, but were the repainted Red Crowns the ones that were advertised before hand as reproductions?? And it looks like they were hammered down in the 300 dollar category.

The Phillips can, Lot #212, at $300 too?? You're right, prices were strong. I've not a can guy, but I bought that can a couple years ago and I think I gave around 50 or 60 bucks I would have to get into my petroliana file and see.

I guess the hobby is still strong!!!

I was at the sale, the pumps were very strong for what they were. The pumps all looked worse than they were. And as Bob said, there were several people with lots of money and an auctioneer. It takes 2 people with and auctioneer and money and the sale is on. I bought very little after driving 8 hours one way.

Phil

Thanks, Phil

The 800 was not in the auction. I talked to the owner and he sold it last year. There was a bezel for one...don't know exactly what it went for but I remember that went over $100.

Midway,
I didn't look at all the crowns, but the ones I did look at were original. The only one with original paint was the gold crown.

Lastgas, if the Red Crowns you looked at, re-painted, were originals in the three hundred category then I guess that's ball park. I thought the auction ad said they had repops too-----

I went to a farm sale a few weeks ago over by Monmouth, Il. and a fairly nice Gold Crown sold for $670, which I thought was nuts but at least I didn't have to drive a couple hundred miles just to turn around and go back home. Some old guy bought it.

Ryan is right,,,the Mobil guys were out in force that day!!

Ryan,
I was after a couple of pumps. They went for way more than I was willing to spend. I ended up being the back up bidder on several signs and a few globes. I did manage to buy three globes that weren't cataloged. There were nearly as many uncataloged items as there were cataloged items. There were plenty of good buys to be had, especially later in the sale. I regret not buying the Mobil/Ford billboard. It was COOL.
