Has anyone heard of any companies out there that are making reproductions of the 48" DSP Phillips Gasoline / Motor Oils sign? I've seen them in the smaller sizes and as big as 40" but nothing bigger.... I've been considering looking into purchasing one in the future, I think they have a really nice classic look to them, simple to read.. nice contrast of colors. I know the majority of them made are from Veribrite Signs - Chicago...in the 20's /30's or at least all the ones I've seen. I'd just like a heads up if they are out there, I hate wasting my time with scammers.

IMO, that is a fake. If you look closely at the "Gasoline" and "Motor Oils" lettering, it does NOT properly follow the arc. The letters are not arced properly either. The "M" on motor oils is almost horizontal as is the "S". Very sloppy work and Phillips and this work was not produced in the 20's and 30's much less approved by the company. And to answer your question, they are repopping about everything now. The money is big enough and it will get worse.

I appreciate both of ya's for the reply... it's unfortunate that we have to even have conversations such as this!! Everybody wants the easy money, right!!

Boy, after Randy posted the real one, it looks pretty dang close. I may have been mistaken. I would have to have it in my hand.

how about this DSP sign... the first picture I posted starting the thread was from a real one that sold at auction a few years ago, it was only put up to use as a visual example..... I really wasn't looking for judgment on that sign... I apologize for not wording that in my original post.. I just wanted to know if anyone had seen a 48" repop that looked like that. My whole reason for asking is because I was looking to bid on one at an auction that was rather far from me and I couldn't actually look at it. Also I wasn't familiar with the auctioneer... In the end, I just didn't bid on it at all. Knowing if 48"rs where produced or not I ultimately figured I'd wait another day. It did sell for $850 + 10 or 15% premium. Take a look, it was either a steal of a deal or the new owner got robbed.... sure looks real to me... there was allot of photos too.

In regard to the original question...I automatically presume every sign I look at is being copied by someone.

...that Veribrite makers stamp looks off to me...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I suppose I'll never know, but thanks for everybody's feedback... I value your time & open opinions. In my future hunting I'll keep an eye out more for specific details that may be off a little bit. Hopefully patience will pay off
