So I am hoping to canvas the group to see if I can find someone who knows of an answer.
I am still stuck on what my paint colour to go with my Gilbarco resto.
The pump was painted green with a Shell red base despite clearly having 2 shades of yellow under it (I knew my great aunt had repainted it at least once before). My aunt painted it green to differentiate it from the other pumps on the island (it was a furnace oil pump before being converted to diesel).

That brings me to today - I came across a Facebook Marketplace listing of a similar vintage Gilbarco 996 in original paint with Shell livery that has the similarly painted green doors. The seller lives about 2 hours from where my aunts station was (i havent asked the background on it but expect it was from a station within an hour or two radius) and i know for a fact she did not have two of these. I am dumbfounded because what are the odds someone else painted thier pump in the same green?

That leads me to ask to - does anyone know if this was the standard established practice that Shell corporate dictated for non-gasoline pumps? Does anyone have any insight into the history of this?

Being that here in Canada Shell bought out White Rose the colours might come from them. The green and yellow remind me of the White Rose Ultra colours.

I had a white rose pump that was painted green that had yellow underneath as well. I’m not sure if Shell painted any pumps green.

Hmmm that's an interesting point. The colour does look very similar. It's sure possible they inherited the paint from the sale and provided that to stations

Wondered why my project pump was green with the Shell ad glass. Don’t look like yellow underneath the green tho. There seems to be reds & white.

Super Shell pumps could have painted either Red or White depending on what the current colors were when they were painted.
