Have a question . Anyone here have any luck changing the color on a porcelain Revere station light shade ? With Powder coating and if it holds up to the elements . Thanks in advance for any hints or success stories et’c. .I need to change from Green to Red . The surface is perfect on the existing green shade .No hits or scratches. Picture shows the project and shade in question .

Hi, buzzy56. I'd be more tempted to purchase a very nice red one, and then sell your excellent green one. Even is you have to pay more for the red one, you won't have the expense of the powder coating, and any concerns about possible future durability problems. Just my thoughts. John

I've had success painting porcelain pumps. Rough up the surface ... use self etching primer ... spray with modern paint system, I use (ppg/ditler) ... then put good clear coat on top.

Not sure about powder coating ... the issue is getting it to stick to a slick surface.

Well i decided to go with UV protected powder coat instead of paint . Sand blasted & it is coated real good and has a good sheen on it at a very reasonable cost . One week turn round . Soon as the weather breaks here in Michigan going to sealer prime and then spray finish on the pole and yoke and base . Fun project . Have to stay busy even though I am getting up there . Couple more projects in the back pocket for this summer . Next one is to make a stereo cabinet out of this ignition test station . Restore it as is just remove the doors to use the shelf’s for stereo ,record player et’c. Great graphics and meters on it . Mocked up Lite Station & air meter and ignition tester station .

The light shade turned out really well.... your determination is well applauded. It's nice to have a good local powder coater, a good friend of mine has his own business. Needless to say I have too many things coated I use Honda spray polish in the aerosol can on all my powder coated materials... car bumper .. motorcycle wheels keeps it looking good for a long time. You can find it at any motorcycle / ATV dealership. Good luck & have fun with the next project, it sounds interesting.

Thanks for the tip and positive comment . I will check the polish out . I usually use Rejex polish . They use it on aircraft exteriors for corrosion resistance . Got a few pieces primer sealed today as the temperatures finally came up .Hoping to get the pole and base coated tomorrow if it doesn't rain .
