It is stamped out of a piece of heavy sheet metal, opposed to cast iron or aluminum.

Here’s some old pictures of a stamped steel next to a cast base which is slightly taller and use a shorter frame rails to keep the height the same. Approximately 70” vs 71 1/2” in the frame rails difference. The orange rails are for the stamped steel base. Hope this helps.
