Hey all, My brother and I came across this at our parent's house. Can anyone help us determine if this a legitimate original or a repro? All of the ones I could online did not have red letters... Either letters were missing or painted white. Thought I'd try asking the experts. Thanks to anyone who can help

Is the base glass - or does it have a metal attachment?

Yeah, the glass is flared at the bottom and seems threaded on the inside? Will have to take another look. I just can't find another with the letters are red like this one

Just post a pic of the base so a better determination can be made.

IMHO, it's a incorrectly painted reproduction.
Original Crowns had a metal base almost exclusively.
Glass flanged Crowns are almost always reproductions.

Over the past 15 years, I have been able to purchase about 10 red crown globes from individuals who also provided the history of these globes. EVERY one of the globes had a threaded base and some came with the corresponding threaded metal mounting ring. I agree with Jim. IMO this is not an original red crown globe. Neil

Thank you both. Do reproductions have any value?
And of course if anyone has any different opinions about its status as a repro, please chime in. I also read if the flange measures out at 6" it is most definitely a repro, so if that's true that might settle it, so we'll try to measure it soon.

Unpainted new ones with a 6" base are $250.00.

These embossed letter crowns have a glass flanged base”like the one shown” and they are 7in base. Your globe is original if it measures 7inces across the bottom. These raised letter globes all have a flanged glass base, no threads or rings on these.

Reproduction Crown's have a 6" flanged base.
This is according to the people that sell them.
