Well, finished putting up my 30 x 48 shop last summer. Knowing that this coming summer would be spent pouring a floor and finishing off the interior, I thought I would go ahead and build me a custom workbench for the new shop during the winter. First pic is the woods from where the tree came. We selected a mature ash tree for the project.  Once cut down we had a portable mill company come in and plank it for us. Next was a trip to the kiln where the wood was dried out for a couple of months. Over the course of the winter we planed, cut, glued, sanded, routed, and..... this is the finished product. An 11 foot long solid ash workbench with 32 inches of depth with a four inch backsplash. The following pics really don't do it justice, you just have to see it in person. I'm going to be doing a lot of wrenching on cars and restoring pumps on it too. Just thought I would share.

Wow....nice looking piece of ash! Seriously, that thing is too pretty to use as a work bench....it looks like furniture!

Great looking work bench. I agree with Jim I'd be afraid to use it, it looks too nice. Wish I had your woods out back would love to have some ash and hickory for my Model A and T projects. Richard

Very, very nice. Always wanted a large wooden bench like that. But with a garage built in 1931, my '66 Mustang just barely fits thru the garage door as it is. And with some petro items and tool boxes getting a little short on room for this fat boy. LOL. Thanks for the look see.

AWESOME Job!! Nicer than our dining room table. Too pretty to use but know you'll enjoy it and get a lot of use out of it. Hope your Grandkids like to work in the shop cause it'll definitely last several lifetimes.

That is a wonderful project. As it is no doubt of heirloom quality I'd like to recommend that you afix a small plaque or sign on it with the story of the ash tree from your property and, of course, your name and the date when it was made. The future is rushing toward us and sometime down the line your decendents will be touched by your story. Al B

Quality workmanship for sure, plus building from scratch and picking out the raw materials yourself. I like your old bench grinder too, very cool. The other guys had a good point, document it and protect the top for future generations. Now you will have to show us the rest of that big shop and the projects being done in there. Thank you for sharing.
