Does anyone have a good idea to soften the gas hose to a pump? The last three pumps I have done all have stiff hoses and dont hang close to the pump. Is there a way to loosen them so they arent so brittle? Thanks. Tom

This might be an old fairy tale, but I remember someone telling me that the way to soften up an old rubber tire was to take it out and throw it in an old pond for about a year. Try it, it might work, at least you won't have to spend any money trying it.

I know someone is going to take this the wrong way, but have you tried vaseline.

I have used Liberal amounts of W D 40 to get Rubber more pliable . I never tried to do a gasoline hose but the Vasoline certainly sounds feasible too . Ed Shaver

I've never attempted to soften a hose to get it to hang properly, but I have with good success used long piece (the length of the hose) heavy wire 1/8"-3/16" or light rod inserted in the hose that when bent to the desired loop/twist shape will hold the hose in place.

Are you using NEW hose?
If not that may be your problem.
Also you should use a 10ft hose on a tall pump
14-18' on a short and there will still be hose that extends past the frame of the pump......
Remember these things were meant to do WORK, also to look good,
but normally the hose extended past the front and back of the pump. The way you want the hose and the way it would have been may be two different things.
One way to soften a NEW hose is with heat.Hang it over something in the sun, then cool in that position.....spray it w/ cold water

Yes, I am using new hose. But, as you said, these pumps were made to work, not look good. If I cant get the hose to lay a little closer to the pump, so be it. It would be nice however if it were a little softer and didnt take up so much room. I am going to try and loosen the hose a bit at the pump and see if I can get the twist out of it. Thanks guys for all your help.
