I have a question..its not strictly petro..but I thought this was the best forum..I am restoring a 1940's Dr Pepper refrigerated cooler..and I have an original water slide decal of a dr pepper botle on it...How can I get duplicates made, in diferent sizes, for the sides of the cooler? I thought that the expertise of the members here could point me in right direction.

There are several out there available with Coke and candy machine restoration supplies.
I know I've seen a sheet with several sizes on it

why does it have to be a water slide decal ..

because of technology etc... most quality decals now, are not a water slide type or style ..

there are several alternative processes and new materials that can be used .. one of the best being... digitally printed on laminated vinyl ..

appears to be about a 20" decal ..

Have you tried BelDecal.com ? They sell water slide decal paper to be used with an inkjet printer. Make your own. I havnt tried it but have been intending to. I just dont like the looks of a vinyl decal on an item before their time, there is some great looking vinyl decals out there, but they just look plastic where as a waterslide looks more like paint and not so "stuck on" just my humble opinion...RD

Hello Robert,
Great looking decal. I have never seen that one reproduced. The kind folks over at
soda-machines.com can help with idea's for a new decal. As stated before vinyl is the best but pricey.

Robert:

The guys are right, set-up charges for a run of water slide decals would be very expensive. Plus, you would need to pay for either printing an extremely large sheet (to get all the various sizes you need on it) - or pay set up fees for each size you need.

If you decide to go vinyl - well, once the vector artwork is done, I can output you any number of decals at any number of sizes. No extra charges.

If you want to discuss the project, shoot me an e-mail at: t-ways@email.com

Later . . .

Jim

Only trouble I have with BelDecal is , you will have to Die-cut from sheet After printing & Before applying. So it's best to have smooth lines like the Dr. Pepper bottle. Largest common sheets are 11" x 17", But most do not have that large of printer, so you would have to pre cut paper before printing.

You can try Seth at Vic's 66, I will bet he might just happen to know where to get them. Also Steve at Fun-Tronics in Maryland would know. They come in a big sheet with all diferent sizes. If you can't find them I still may have some left.

to me, BelDecal.com seems to have a number of issues... appears to be paper only type decals .. they require 2-3 weeks to do setup and art cleanup work etc and another 2-3 weeks for production... thats after the time involved getting the proof approved. One could if you had the right person make it... could have it in no time, on vinyl, also laminated if desired and all at a very reasonable cost too .. not to mention... the large size would not be any problem and there would be no additional die-cutting to do either ..

I think with a little bit of work, you could do it yourself, then print it on decal paper.....

BTW.... The 10, 2, 4 was a Dr Pepper advertising thing. It seems that your metabolism slows down at that time if day. So a bit of Dr Pepper at those times would make you more productive...... "Wouldnt you like to be a Pepper too?"
