I do a fair bit of restoration work for my dad. He has a customer that wants this globe restored. If anyone recognizes it, you'll know it’s a pretty rare piece. I want it done correctly so I'm hoping someone out there can help.

Dad is certain the Imperial circle should be all red. I would normally agree but I recently saw a very small blurry picture of one of these and it sure looked like it was in fact two-toned with the blue like the one I have to do. The only thing I can think of is that the one I saw in the picture has changed hands and is actually the one now in our possession.

Here is the globe-

Is there anyone out there that knows how this should look or better yet has a picture of one. I've searched the net with no luck so far.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Jim, that's exactly what I was looking for. Can you tell me where the quote is from?

Checked out your website, nice work! In another life, that's the type of biz I'd like to set up for myself. Back in high school I had a small screen printing shop set up and was printing pump decals. So much easier with all the new digital printers available these days. Big problem is that I haven't seen the price of decals going up much in the last 15 years or so.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

The information I gave you came from the 'Teal' Pump Bible.

Gas Globes, Amoco to Mobile by Scott Benjamin and Wayne Henderson. ISBN # 0-7643-0668-5

Make sure to post some photos of the globe when you get it restored.

Later . . .

Jim

Thanks Jim, just saw that book through the Bookstore link at the top of this page. I might need to go shopping. There's a bunch of books I'd like to pick up.

I'll post a pic when it's done. I do this stuff in my spare time and it usually sits around for quite awhile before I get to it.

Mobil100...that's a great little display you have there. I love the BIG Red Indian sign. If I had the $ and the wife would approve, I'd love to start a Red Indian collection. I've also always wanted one of those Coke fountain signs like you've got just sneaking into the picture on the right hand side! Seeing your display also reminded me of another job I have sitting down at my dad's. I have to hand paint the red into one of those Shell globes except the one I have to do has "Super" above it with all the little speed lines coming out of the letters. Not looking forward to doing that one!

cdncon... I'm up in blustery Bruce County. Getting real sick of winter!

Thanks for everyone's help.
