I agree with Ryan, It has been a Scare tactic Paint Co. have used to get you to buy all the products they recommend and sell.
As long as the prep is done correct, the Paint will stay

I completely agree with this statement. Most painters will not paint over others body work, as it COULD make them look bad.

Wow - you obviously have the experience if you are painting that many cars a year (must be a high volume collision shop?) so you know what works.

As a painting newb, I could not afford to experiment so I went by the book (the advice I obtained was from reading and from the show car painters where I work). My second paint job was on my '67 SS Camaro, and I used all of the PPG products with the color coat in the base/clear DBU system. It turned out really nice!

300 cars a year is not that much unless it is a small shop. I work in a shop with four body techs and two painters and we do 500-600 cars a year. I used to work in a big shop with 14 body techs, four painters and seven painters helpers. Alot of cars a year there. We did $700,000.00-$900,000.00 in sales per mounth there. It was crazy.
