I recently picked up one of these:

They probably aren't worth alot but I think it is neat. I will be restoring soon and wondered if anyone had any pics of one finished. Don't care if they are yours or not, just wondering where to paint what. does the cart usually get the same paint as the barrel? or should it be black? or did these have brand specific colors, like other tools. I will try to get a brand tonight.

hoopty,
The barrel did not come with the pump and cart, the barrel comes from the company whose grease is in it. Note the barrel on Thunders.

that's why I was asking if they are normaly just black or red or if certain brands were certain colors, like most tools are.also if you look at the first pic thunder posted the lid part on mine is part of the machine. is it typical to paint that the color of the barrel for the resto?

also thunder what do these usually go for my crank still turns but is veeeeery rusty

The first one was $25.00 if I remember correctly. The second one, was a rusty barrel, two cans of paint, as NOS decal, and a pump, that I found in a junk pile.

As far as painting the first one, the barrel would have been painted by the supplier, in their colors/logo. Look for some old Pennzoil barrels, or Texaco barrels. Equipment at the CHEVRON Station, where I worked, was all provided by CHEVRON. So if we had a setup like that, it would have been beige/cream & black, with a CHEVRON barrel. Sometimes a piece like that, can bring good money, if its overdetailed, pinstriped, with custom decals, and lots of clear coats. Grease & oil dispensors are the usual canidates for this kind of treatment.

As far as value, little or none. I seem to be about the only person who saves/collects wierd stuff like that. Beware though. If you toss it in the trash, somebody would have been willing to pay $100.00 for it.

pretty cool loftbed

thanks for the info. the original barrel on mine has a few traces of light blue on the upper 1/3. any idea what brand that would be?

value doesn't suprise me, I didn't think it was worth alot but it caught my eye. so now we have 2 people on here that collect these oddball things. I'm kinda glad to find out they aren't worth a fortune because now my chances have raised to get more. lol
