Am restoring a Butler model 71 and am in need of some parts and technical information.

Missing handle and pump mechanism - would like to find original handle/pump but if not available, will settle for repro handle. Will need some technical information on the installation of a repro handle when the pump is missing.

Any parts and/or information/technical assistance will be greatly appreciated.

This regards my post of Feb 9, 2011 (Butler Model 71) for parts and/or information on this Butler pump that I'm restoring.

When I first found this website, I was real excited to see 100s of hobbyists, just like me, that could probably be of some assistance. Amazing, that after 99 people have read my post, not one person has responded to offer any assistance.

Is the Butler 71 so rare that no one has any information, parts or suggestions?

...that said, it's only been a week...I don't have a Butler and I would wager not many on Oldgas do...it's a neat pump, and not easy to find...I've reposted 4 or 5 times for parts I'm looking for, without success (yet!)...

...if someone saw your post and had original parts to sell, believe me, they'd let you know...

...have you tried clicking on the 'parts' link at the top of this page?...one of the vendors listed might have the parts you need, and would surely give you technical assistance free with any purchase...

...good luck with your restoration - you might want to post photos of your pump as well, before and after - posts with photos seem to get more attention...good luck!

I don't know if the pump is rare, but it is not too common. I don't advise purchasing a pump that is incomplete and borders on being rare. There are probably two or three other guys who are looking for parts just like you, and usually no one is willing to part out their pump.

You will need to find someone who has a complete pump, and ask them if there is any way you can copy their handle, or at least get a picture of it.

As for how to mount the handle, you are going to have to get immagenative.

99 guys at least read your post, and 99 guys so far have no information or parts for you. You may have to post this again in the hope that someone new may have stumbled on a 71 parts pump.

The only information I have is a copy (sorry the original is sold) of a Butler 71 ad from 1928.

Larry, I try to help a little. I have restored one, Butler 71, however it was 100% complete when I started. Since that pump has a solid four legged frame with panels and corner trim, you could go ahead and do all your restoration on what you already have if all you need is a pump and handle. You can remove the 2 front corner trim pieces and the short front panel at a later date and carefully install a pump when you find one. The handle goes on the outside anyway so that is easier. Handles are an elusive item, I restored a "Rush" model K and the only thing missing was the handle. It took 4 years but I found one at an auction 8 miles from home.Get started and keep asking.Have fun.

Thanks to all that responded to my second post. No doubt I was getting a bit impatient. Will keep on looking.

Jack, I have your Illustrated Guide to Gas Pumps. I have also submitted a purchase order for your Butler ad materials. Hope I'm not too late.

When I bought this pump, there was no glass cylinder but within a short period, I was fortunate to find an original cylinder which I now proudly possess. Otherwise, the pump is in great shape with only the pump and handle missing. Have completed disassembled and sandblasted all the pieces. Starting to get all the panels and parts primed and ready for paint.

I will post some B4 and after photos soon.
