we are probably going to leave sometime this coming weekend for a "wandering tour" thru hopefully... nice sunny parts of tx, ok, nm, az and hopefully nv.

ANY GOOD PETROLINA HAPPENINGS [or other neat things] TO SEE AND DO?

the mrs said she would like to see the hoover dam etc this year. while death valley and that area 51 stuff kind of intrigues me.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER [this time of year]IN YOUR AREA?

about the only tenative plans are possibly being around vics for his annual auction plus maybe the dectaur tx yearly spring swap meet and then canton tx "first monday trade days" for march.

MOST ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS AT ALL [other than stay home, lol] GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Sounds like a cool trip. Wish I could ride along.

Take a look at our Petro Places page to see some places to see. Also, do some research about Route 66 on the many sites on the Web. There are still lots of vintage spots that still exist along stretches of old 66.

Other than petro, I really liked the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion National Parks.

I enjoyed Hoover Dam. Haven't ever been out to Area 51.... Other than the short ride on the flying saucer. Thats when they implanted that crystal in my leg, but thats another story..... Las Vegas is a MUST DO! One night on the strip, maybe another for the Freemont experience. And I was just joking about the crystal in my leg, I think its in my arm..... LOL. NANOO NANOO!!!!

Plan a good day for Hoover Dam and Lake Mead area, it's a must visit. Start looking at maps, distances, mileage, etc... Take as many State hi-ways as possible when time permits & the wife lets you. You are in for a great time.

BarrettJackson Auction started today. Quite a bit of petro stuff by vendors and in the auction as well. On you way to Area 51....also....in Tucson, there is the aircraft museum with tours of the aircraft grave yard....really kool stuff.

I am currently doing that same trip, almost,kinda, we flew from Toronto to Vegas last Thursday, stayed at the FLAMINGO on the strip in the centre a must, we rented a car and saw most of the big casinos then drove out to the north LV to the LV Speedway,, then over to the west side to a saloon ( Pioneer Saloon)very old 1920's guys like Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, Clark Gable have been there, 30 minutes from downtown Vegas, then next day we went to Boulder City and Hoover Dam, great day.. we left this morning for the Bryce Canyon which is closed, then down to the North Rim of Grand Canyon which has been closed with 5 ft. of snow on the road since Oct. ha,ha,ha,not very well planned eh ? Now we are in Tuba City AZ, and going to the south rim of the Grand Canyon tomorrow which is opened year round then we are going on down to Sedona and into Phoenix and Scotsdale for the Barrett Jackson and RM auctions this Thursday,Friday Sat., then on down to Tombstone AZ. around to Yuma AZ. and on up to Death Valley and back across to Las Vegas by Jan.31st. and fly back to Canada.. approx. 3 weeks trip.. hope this helps,, Wes.

Hit some of Route 66 in Arizona if you can. Kingman has a good museum with lots of petro stuff. Oatman if off old 66, and pretty cool. Time it so you can see one of the old time cowboy shootouts in the middle of main street. Oatman is SMALL, really gives you a feel for what old 66 must have been like back in the day. You can buy some carrots in town and feed the wild burros if they wander in town, which they almost always do.

You can actually drive the length of old 66 quite aways through Arizona if you map it out. Lots of websites out there to help. That's what I did.

I'm heading back out next month and can't wait. Need some sun and warmth.

Hey, I'm going to try and get some of that Route 66 while around AZ as well, where is the Kingman Museum also Oatman ?

Seligman,AZ is worth a quick look as it is on Rt 66. Last I heard they were still keeping out the fast food franchises to keep an original look to the town. The drive from Seligman to Kingman on old 66 is a nice drive, too.

hey wes: this post is pretty much for you, as we did a big cicle tour of az last year.

please note were extrememly interested in details of what kind of weather etc and how much snow have you been running into or thru. you can click on my profile and get our email. pls send us details on that and what to see in nevada, thanks.

unfortunately, looks like youve already gone by a number of great other neat places... oatman and kingman, including some route 66 hot spots along 40 such as seligman etc. a couple of them you may be able to catch on the way back up.

you might want to cut down by winslow to see the world famous crater and also the best, easiest, most convenient... etc, etc, etc, way to see the canyon by far. especially this time of year, is the guided train out of williams... complete with shoot outs and train robbery.

hope you have reservations for the auctions. you will enjoy and its nice to say you been there and done that.

you need much, much more time to see az and the saguros... lol, but so as not to take up to much more space here... if you email us quickly, can suggest several other... do not miss things such as the worlds noted monsterous airplane graveyard. also missle silo, old tucson, and of course quartzite to quickly mention just a few.

we pretty much did most of az incl the auctions last year and some of it were going to do again... lol

not sure of the weather but to hit a number of neat spots looks like were going to have to plan a trip completely around that nevada test site. plus of course las vegas, boulder and the hoover dam.

jack maybe you can enlighten us on the weather we can expect up there.

guess were also going to have to try and find a lap top to take with us. were going to gone about six weeks to two months. we put on a little over 7,000 miles by the time we got home last year.

www.kingmantourism.org is a pretty informative site.

The musuem is actually called the Powerhouse Visitors Center. It's loaded with info and has a great musuem that you pay a little fee to walk through, but well worth it. It's right in town as you come in from Oatman, can't miss it. There was a restaurant right across the road called Mr. D'z or something like that. We ate there. It was good.

Oatman is about an hour drive. You would actually start below Oatman where the old 66 starts, and you can pretty much drive old 66 to Seligman. I know from personal experience that the drive from below Oatman up to Kingman is well worth it. Cool scenery.

Chloride/Dolan Springs looks pretty cool as well, I'm going to try and check that out this year.

Oh, and I would skip the auctions, especially Barrett-Jackson, way tooooo crowded. Watch it on Speed.

I liked the other stuff, ALOT less crowded.
