Has anyone taken down the "Shell" individual letters that are presently used on the canopies of Shell stations? I'm looking for advise on how they are attached and how you open up each letter, and where the ballast is generally located, as I believe these letters are neon lit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John

They are run together in series as normal neon and run in to a transformer anywhere you see fit. Most people make a 4-5" deep cabinet and put transformer behind letters.

Thanks for the information. Have you actually taken any of the letters down from a canopy? What I'm hoping to find out is how the letters are actually attached to the canopy, how to remove the red lens on each letter without breaking them and where the transformer is located in the canopy.
Thanks
john

I just bought a set of those letters and hung them on my new wall of plastic. I didnt hook up the neon but the letters come apart very easy. Each letter had one or two screws holding the face or box of the letter to the backing plastic plate. There was holes in the backing plastic plates for mounting on to something. I screwed all the letters to two common pieces of aluminum channel then screwed that to my siding. The neon was all good in mine but there was no transformer. I think there is another set in Spokane if anyone is looking for a set.

Thanks a lot for the information. I've found a set still attached to the canopy and I'm very close to an agreement on the purchase........the property owner is not quite sure about folks that want the sign and not the entire property!
Can you give me any idea as to what I should pay for the letters? I'm not buying them to resell, I plant to add them to my own "Wall Of Plastic" .
Thanks again
John

150$. Cut power. then each letter has a face that is held on by screws around perimeter. Then remove and unhook power to each letter then remove letters that will be drillined onto canopy fascia with self driller 5/16 screw most likely.

Thanks again. $150.00 is a very good price.......$50.00 for all five letters is a great price. I expect I'll be in the $150.00 range when it is all said and done.
