Bottom line, I don't want to step up and make a really good offer only to have it used as bait for the seller to shop it around. Good point, that is usually the only reason behind "Taking Offers"

Statements such as, "I'm thinking about selling this." are considered an offer to sell.

i think this topic has been beaten to death a few times in the last couple years on oldgas.....but i get the feeling that most people fishing for a "best offer" know what there items value is and are hoping to get an offer for more $$$ than its worth??? kind of like most antique "dealers"
see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

If you do not know what you want for something maybe you should put it in the value section and only when you decide on some kind of price should it be in the for sale section.I do not want to price any thing for some one because we all know some things means more to me than you and to you than me.

Its the same thing as no one wanting to declare what they paid for something on this site for the simple fact that when they sell it they want max value. Someone won't put a $400 price tag on a Mobil sign on here if they think there's a chance someone will pay them $600, despite what it's worth. Some people have more money than sense and it inspires greed in sellers. If you want to sell something for $600 offer it for that and add a OBO. If you get $600 great, if not, don't sell it if you're offered a price you don't like.
Some of things I've seen and read on this site are beyond rude and greedy. Get a grip.

I DO REALLY WELL USING THE "OR BEST OFFER" FORMAT. I SEE SOME PEOPLE GETTING LESS $ FOR USING THE AUCTION FORMAT. SOME OF YOU BUYING FROM OTHER ONLINE AUCTIONS, END UP GETTING LESS ON EBAY WITH AN AUCTION STYLE NO RESERVE FORMAT.

Nothing wrong with putting a price and then "or best offer", which is much different than no price and asking for offers. I thought "or best offer" meant the price is negotiable.

 I just want to say 2 things.... I'll never forget the first time I encountered OBO meant best offer OVER the asking price! DUH! I had no idea what that was. The price was the starting point going up. And it always perterbs me that someone is afraid they will leave some money on the table when they sell an item. It is totally no matter what you paid for something, what you sell it for! If you found it along side the road for free... and it is worth a lot of money, oh well? What you paid is nobody's business only what you have it for sale is their problem.
