Perhaps this is been covered before, but I continue to wonder if there was any real relationship between Standard Oil Company and some of the CROWN, Royal Crown stuff I have. Anybody?

Brian, what kind of Royal Crown stuff you got? I'm curious, as I have a Royal Crown Oill Co(Syracuse NY) E-Z pour can I found in Pate TX several years ago(I thought it was cool to display with my Royal Crown cola stuff) I just thought they were a maybe a tiny jobber or somethin....
What's the skinny on that company? Anybody know?
Also, Brian, aren't you the guy that I sold a Phillips neon sign to a couple of years ago?

Hi, Mike. Yup, that was my first neon sign, and I'm still enjoying it quite abit. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

I have a couple "crown" globes in question. Both sets are typical 13-1/2" lenses for a Capco style body. The lenses are white with a narrow red ring around the very outside. On one set, the word CROWN appears in the center in red letters, and the words ROYAL CROWN appear in the other set. I also have a sign that says CROWN with deco sort of "wings" at each end.

So, again, I trying to discern the relationship between these that use the word CROWN and what we all refer to as Standard Oil crowns (red,gold,white, green, grey, blue, etc).

Anybody?

Brian, Crown Central Petroleum and Standard Oil are inded separate companies. Crown started in the east Texas oil fields in 1917 and by 1920 had a refinery. In 1930 they moved the corporate offices to Baltimore and began retail gasoline marketing in 1933 in the eastern states. They are still marketing today. The winged Crown emblem probably is the one dating from 1945-1966. On the Phillips 66 neon sign...it is a beaut! I saw it when Mike had it for sale and if I hadn't already had flattened my wallet, it would have been mine. LOL A great sign!

Your "Crown" globe is from Standard Oil of Kentucky.

Your "Crown" sign with the wings is from Crown Central Petroleum from Baltimore.

Don't have a clue on the "Royal Crown" globe. Can you post a picture of it?

Ya know, when I occassionally ask questions on this forum, I always expect to get an answer because of all the answers I've observed while lurking. And then, when I actually get the reply, I'm blown away nonetheless. Not just on this post, but on many, the detail of knowledge out there is pretty damnd awesome.

So that I'm clear, the CROWN sign with wings is from the Baltimore outfit, while the CROWN globe is from the same Standard Oil of Kentucky that used the crown shaped globes in the various colors/fuel grades... right?

If so, then would these 13-1/2" lenses have been used at the same time as the shaped globes or before or after?

The ROYAL CROWN and the CROWN are identical in font, color and proportions, except of course one also has the word ROYAL.

I could email some pictures to someone who can post it... I've yet not figured out how to create a host server.

Answers? Any offers to post the pics?

Standard Oil of Kentucky didn't use the CROWN shaped GLOBES. They are Standard of Indiana.

What an idiot I am. The fly in the ointment here is that I thought one of the globe lenses said ROYAL Crown, but instead it says Crown EXTRA. Dope!

So, based on the feedback here, both these Crown lenses are from Standard of Kentucky.

My interest is narrowed to Standard of Indiana, so I'll be selling the Kentucky and Baltimore stuff.
