So I always wanted to restore a gas pump and finally found one in decent shape and only missing a few parts. So I shot 1000 photos as I took it apart. My questions are How do you adjust the price? How is the best way to clean the computer without screwing anything up? I am sure I will have many many more questions.

well not stupid at all, veeder roots are a pia!!in the bottom with all the gears, there are pins that come out,and as you move the pin into different positions, the price wheels are supposed to move to that number.have to be freed up in alot of cases.when i clean one out,i usually hit it with degreaser and then pressure wash it(dont want to do that if you are trying to save the wheels)then lube it up with wd 40 or another good lube.joe yokum can maybe explain the adjustment better, hes the computer guy on here.

My experience has been that engine cleaners and degreasers work ok. I like to seperate the top and bottom and soak them in a solition of water and Era laundry detergent and then clean with a stiff tooth brush. It's also been my experience that you have to seperate the two in order to work on the pieces that adjust the pricing. It's not hard but it's not a fast process.

I've never had a problem using Simple Green on the Embossed wheels, just on the painted Flat wheels, then hose off & air blow dry.

The range arms w/ the pins have to slide up and down and turn to adjust price. The tops run through the variator top plate, they can be seized keeping the range arms from turning. There are spring loaded pins under the price wheels that can get stuck, keeping the wheels from turning. The variator is simple compared to the head. Bottom plate is marked for range arm placement, large top gear is ten, medium gear is 1, smaller gear is 10ths. Keep range arm w/ shaft, they are all different. The steel flat parts with the brass tops are the same except on 99.9/10 variators like ths one. The majority of the ones I have done are 49.9/10 Just don't loose the washers under the cone gear and range arms

The really crappy ones have to be disassembled, sandblasted, painted...See the pits & holes in the top plate. If you think that one is nice.....1932

I use Krylon Metallic #1401 spray can. Everything I paint is sandblasted first. The blinders on the 32 computer were chromed. The best parts I could find were set aside for the 32 project, tumble and polished. INSANE...isn't it?

That is impressive!!! I appreciate all the help! Its Saturday and the wife is letting me go outside and play with my new pump. Mine will never look that pristine but I am going to give it my best shot! Thanks again, I am sure there will be questions today and tonight as I tear it apart.
