We just finished our new garage and thought a gas pump would be a great finishing touch.
After a quick search of craigslist, I found an inexpensive $200. pump that needed restoration.
The man sent a few cell phone pictures before we went to pick it up. It didn't look like a typical gas pump, so I searched the internet photos and it appeared to be a Sharmeter M-513.
When we got it home, the ID plates confirmed that it is a Sharmeter. Now, I'm having trouble finding much information about it. I believe it was from the 1920's.
I want to restore it to its original beauty.
It has a Cities Service Oils logo on the front and the Massachusetts Weights and measures plate on the clock face. It also has a Contains Lead label added which leads me to believe that it was in service into the late 70's and possibly beyond.

If anyone can point me to any information about this pump, it would be greatly appreciated. In the meanwhile, I hope you all don't mind me picking your brains, the more I read about gas pumps, the more fascinated I become. Thanks for you patience!

Welcome to Oldgas.com! You stole it at $200.00, that`s a rare and very collectible gas pump. Sharmeter only made gas pumps from 1926 to 1936. Your pump would have been made sometimes around 1927.

Post some pictures.

I'm finding it is rare and am now a bit nervous about the restoration. It's a different frame of mind than when it was just a cool looking $200. junk pump. Yikes!

Here some the pictures of the Sharmeter M-513.

Very nice pump! I noticed, your truck parked in your garage. If you are mechanically inclined and do your own maintenance on your truck. Then you have all the skills you will need to restore that pump. You bought the pump for yourself and to enjoy it. Don`t let that change. Restore it the way you want and have fun doing it.

If you haven't already, post your future questions in the General Petro section. A lot more folks will see it there than here and I am sure you will get a good response including (if it hasn't happened already) private messages asking to buy it. Resist! Have fun restoring it!

Nicole
p.s. some of the questions you will have can be found in the how to questions and answers section at the bottom of the general forums lists.

Thanks Nicole! I see that this child forum isn't the best place for getting answers to questions frown

I did thorough searches on here, a few other gas pump forums and the whole web and am coming up empty (pun intended smile )

I contacted Sharpsville Container, formerly Sharpsville Boiler Works to see if they could shed some light on this pump. From articles I have read, they're quite proud of the company and its long and rich history. We shall see.

Thanks again,
Mary

Thanks Dave! Yeah that truck was a basket case out of PA. After about a zillion hours of sanding, searching for parts and just a lot of blood, sweat and tears, it got finished. Unfortunately, it sat outside all summer until the garage project was done and needs quite a bit of work to bring it back.

What a great find for a first pump! There are vendors selling reproduction parts for your restoration efforts.
www.gaspump.com is Ron Scobies site. He offers some parts for this pump and there may be some original parts out there too. You've found the right place to start, so don't be afraid to ask questions or advice.
Don't sell it, you'll regret selling your first pump and you can look for many years and never find another one like that!
