Ran across this picture in a book my daughter got for christmass. The station is in NE Oregon. the sign pump plate and globe look to be the same. There is a lighting bolt across the top then General below it then Violet Ray below it then Gasoline. Anybody ever here of this company before? Thanks Richard

Richard.... I've seen some other photos in a book once. The photos were taken around the Washington state area. Boy, I'd love to have an original Violet Ray gas globe!

General Petroleum was founded in 1910 and was headquartered in Vernon, CA. SOCONY (Mobil) bought them in 1926. Some stations were branded General through WW2. General Gasoline stations sold a GRADE of gasoline called Violet Ray. There were at least four different globes used by General. General Gasoline, General Violet Ray Gasoline, General Ethyl, and General Petroleum Ethyl Gasoline (there is only one known of this version). I don't recall the first two versions I listed, but I do remember seeing both of the Ethyl versions at the GPM auction.
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/

Richard, don't know if a "Repop" would work for you, but Mike Slama has a General globe available. Very nice, too.
