Hello everyone. Can anyone give me some direction on what to do with this part. Do I need it? The push - pull switch attaches to it to turn on the lights. Its frozen and does not work. Should I cut the metal conduit off near the threads and re-attach it? Or should I Cut about an inch off of the metal conduit so I can expose the wires? This is off of my 1959 Gilbarco pump. I'm sure the wiring is no longer safe to use. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I take them apart and make them work. The switch inside resembles a regular light switch.Rewire with new light sockets and they work fine and look original.A little wd40 usualy frees them right up.Bill

Better to keep the switch as it is an original part and looks good. Also it is a convenient way to turn the lights on and off.

Take the cover off and slowly work the rod out that activates the switch. You may have to lightly tap it with a hammer to work it loose. WD40 or penetrating fluid will help loosen it up. Once removed clean the rod on a wire wheel and reassemble using WD40 as a lubricant.

I usually remove the conduit pipe to save on weight. You can chip out the black sealer out of the threaded area of the housing to feed your new power cord in. You don't need to place any sealer back in that was originally used to make the pump explosion proof.
