I have a chance to buy this sign. Guy claims it goes between pumps. Cant find any markings or a date on it. Nice sign, Porcelain not painted only some slight pit marks. Pelase let me know what you think.

Thanks
Wally

Thanks. I appreciate it. It is double sided and looks nice. Guess too nice to be real.
How can someone new to the hobby tell on repo signs? any suggestions?
Thanks again.

Look at outer edge, Uneven. Even the red lines are Uneven. Right side should be a Mirror Image of Left side. Shell never had sloppy signs.

To the best of my knowledge Shell never made a yellow pump plate.Red only, other than Green Streak. The red ones say "USA" at the bottom and have 4 grommets

Look at the detail on the bottom of the sign, it is very obviously off center. Glad you didn't get hosed on this one.

For me, I don't have any perfect/mint signs, more out of my price range. He was asking $200 and that seemed pretty cheap if it was real. I didn't think about the margins being off. Thought it was from the process. But it makes sense that a large company like Shell would not pay for something that was flawed.

Thanks and I am learning.

Might be a good thread to start and post as a "sticky" Thing to look for and how to identify repos.

the edges on the letters should be perfect. When they look hand painted , WALK AWAY!

Wally, it is certainly good that you want to learn more about how to recognize repro signs.

However, don't overlook something you have ALREADY learned: You now know to be very careful if you ever are tempted to buy something from this unethical Shell sign seller in the future. Perhaps you have even learned to cross him off your list of contacts!! I'm glad you didn't get taken. John
