TARGET PRACTICE, Cheap painted repo sign. If you have not paid ebay seller, ask seller to cancel auction.

Dick is very right. This is a trashy little sign that might be worth 2 bucks at a garage sale.

Service Garage: Yes it's a reproduction. See what you can do with the seller to try and get out of the deal ? Check with this site when in doubt on something... That is what we are all here for. Doug

what was the ebay item number? how was it described.....orginal or just texaco sign?.. looks like you already have it on your wall. You may just have to check it on your lifes lessons....the lessons in life that you really learn from are the "bought" lessons. I believe most collectors have been burnt at least once......

Thank you for all the replies. Unfortunately I bought the sign about 8 months ago so there is no going back. There was allot of bidders bidding on the sign so I thought I found a good one. It was described as could be a collectors item?

Get all the repo catalogs that are available & a couple of the sign books. When you find something you'll have a reference to check size , color an a rough idea what it's worth. IF, your still not sure, ASK US & post a link to where item is. db

I'm ashamed to say that I can't tell. Then I've seen few photos of that era sign. It's at least old enough for the red to have faded.... what gives it away? The proportions?

Jason: Size, Color, red just doesn't fade that way, proportions of the BlackT. There's nothing to be a shamed about, We all started somewhere. Get some books. Send me an email if you ever have any questions regarding Texaco/Havoline items. I think I could help you. Doug [This message has been edited by blackteetexacogold (edited 07-08-2008).]

Thanks Doug.... the thing is, I'm not a neophyte, I've been fixating on gas station signs for 40 years! However, that early version of the Texaco sign isn't one I've seen often.
If red doesn't fade that way, then someone took a reproduction and intentionally faded it, with a method that results in a different look than real aging I guess....?
