All, I know many of us use Paypal as an efficent and easy way to pay others when purchasing "petroliana" across the nation. Please be aware that you can NO longer send money as a GIFT without Paypal taking their 2.9% percentage plus $.30 in the USA. International transactions are 3.9% plus $.30 I'm not sure how many people take the time to read the updates, so I'm just posting this as a heads up to keep everyone in the loop.
Thanks, Ron

Also, you still have the option to choose either Buyer/Seller to absorb the transaction fees.

I have sent approx. 10 Paypal gifts in the last 2 weeks and have not had to pay any fees...
The last one was on Weds and as I said, I paid no fees...
In fact I just sent a Paypal gift, right now... To see if there was a fee and there was none....

I sent a gift payment yesterday and the only fee paid is the 1% fee which, I have always paid for a cash transfer from my bank account to paypal. I also haven't received any e-mails announcing any changes.

I figured Paypal would catch on sooner or later to the fees they were not getting. Guys have been openly advertising items for sale and asking to be paid as a Paypal gift for a while now.

Well, I'm sorry if I stirred the pot for no apparent reason, but I sent a Paypal payment TODAY and it was either Buyer or Seller to accept the transaction fee. Maybe it has to do with the dollar amount. My transaction involved thousands, not hundreds I'll look into it further and post my findings.

I've seen transaction fees when one pays using a credit card and if one paid using Paypal's "Bill me Later" option....
But besides that; I haven't seen any fees... But, maybe I've been extremely lucky?
If there is an situation where Paypal is placing fees on their "Paypal gift Payments"? I know I want to know... So IMO, you have not "stirred the pot"... You passed along info as you have it and again IMO is good...

I have sent money as a gift in the last week. If it is tied to a credit card there is a fee. If tied to a checking account no fee.

How come I pay 1% for cash transfers from my checking account when making paypal payments...always have? If I send a $100.00 gift payment, my checking account gets $101.00 debited from it. I thought this was normal because that's how paypal makes their money as it is a gift payment the seller gets the entire $100.00. All Paypal made is the $1.00 (1% fee) that I paid. Which is a lot more convenient then having to write a check and having to mail it.
Bob, when you send someone a $100.00 gift payment. That's all you get debited is a $100.00. How does paypal make any money doing that? Or a better question, why would paypal be doing it for nothing?

After reading the additional posts and going back to check the Paypal transaction. I see that the transaction did post to my credit card and therefore the fees. I did not necessarily want it this way, but it must have defaulted to the last method of payment I used. I kept trying and trying different ways to avoid the fee and it kept coming up the same way, and therefore my reason for posting of Paypal Polcy Changes. Sorry guys!! For now NO FEES, but as Jim pointed out how long before Paypal decides they need some market share in performing that type of transaction as well.
