I had NEVER heard of such a term a few years ago when the show AMERICAN PICKERS came out but after watching the first episode I said to myself OHH OK I SEE THEY MEAN AMERICAN HORSE TRADERS ! which is what we are called here in the VA WV KY area , the HORSE TRADER (PICKER) term around here came from back when everyone owned horses it was simply a guy that had the ability to trade horses and get boot (CASH) extra each time , its a skill you are either born with or you are not , my grandad could go to a gun show and walk in with say $1000 dollars and two guns , he would walk around the vendors buying and selling and come out the other end with $2000 dollars and 5 guns LOL , but anyway around here a (PICKER) is a (HORSE TRADER) what is it called where you live ???? be interesting to hear from different areas ,,,,,,,,,
and yes I am a lifetime horse trader ,, Ive always had the ability except where women are involed I loose in every way shape and form then LOL

If I buy something around here, clean it up and resell it for a profit....we call it flipping it. So I guess I'm a "FLIPPER!" Hahahahaha!

they have come to a couple guys I know.

1. The send a crew ahead...find what they want, dig it out, agree on prices, put it back where they found it, pay you 2500.00 to come back, and you agree to basically read a script for the show.

2. The show comes and everything has been agreed to and all laid out already, but hey its a show so they 'haggle' with you and buy your stuff(keep in mind they've already put up to 2500.00 in your pocket!)

When you come to my place to buy stuff....as soon as your feet hit the ground I tell you....that if you even say 'American Pickers' 25.00 gets added to whatever you are buying! NO KIDDING!

Its some jerk that offers you less than pennies on the dollar.

I say that because I have been dealing with several all weekend.
Cleanng out moms house of a life time, she got this bright idea to contact a business called Nashville Pickers. Well after they tried to beat her up they sent all their buddies to take a swing.

I call these people jerks, I just can't stand it when some one comes up and tells me your going to have to come down on your price because I have to make money on it.That will never make any sense to me.I did not go out look for it find it clean it save it and hold on to it long enough for the next guy to make a profit.I even had a guy try to talk me down on a cooler I had and leave mad only to come back wanting to give me full price two hours later .But I did get the pleasure of telling him I would not sell it to him.

oh, I was also referred to as a "runner" by a guy who owned an antique shop when I offered to sell him something, he was talking to his partner and said there is a runner here with something to sell.

That was the only time I heard that expression but it stuck in my mind
