Hello everyone: I have a pump I got a few years ago that I can't find in Jack's book (wouldn't ya know it!). The closest I can come is an 'American 900' on page 51. Exceptions to the illustration in Jack's book: my pump doesn't have the hose coming out of the side so high up - it's closer to the center of the side and it has a weighted/pully driven cable retraction assembly inside and no ad glass area at the top of the doors. At least it doesn't look like there is space for any ad glass. My base has two open areas on each side cast into the base that appear to be vent holes and I didn't see any indication of hinges for the doors. They appear to have been retained with a bracket that attached to the rotating latch bars accessed from the side access door. This access door is gone too - but it looks like it atached without any hinges either, just a cam lock and a lip at the bottom to hold it in place. The overall size is identical to a Tokheim 39. (As a matter of fact, my Tok 39 and this pump came as a pair from the same farm. I got both of them for a total price of $25.) The existing top piece has an aluminum/white metal globe holder that is recessed into the steel top. It looks like there was a chrome strip that ran around the top - just at the top of the doors/bottom of the top area. The side panels have a rusty strip on them that would have been carried over to the doors (I think). Both sides have two louvers up high, just below these strips. I'm missing both doors and all/anything that might have attached to the doors and the access door. Oh, and the faces - and one sight glass is broken. The sight glass looks to match the Tok 39 - but I haven't gotten around to trying to remove the good one from the mystery pump to see if it's a match or not. Can anyone out there identify this thing? And does anyone have doors/trim/faces/etc. for it? Thanks for any help you might give. Later . . . I may be wrong about this, but erie is the only pump I have seen that has the recessed globe holder. But I havent seen every pump made either. That pump resembles an Erie 743 I have except the site glass on mine is on the side. And the top on mine is plain, doesnt have the ornate bends like yours. The door latch looks like a bowsers door latch. On bowsers you had to reach in from the access door on the side and there is a bar with latches on it.Pull the bar back and the latches raise up(at least in theory, none of mine ever worked that well).

Dodogas:
You are correct - the globeholder is exactly like my M&S 80. But everything else is different.
Bobby: I'll check on the copper tube thingie tonight and let you know what I find.
Come on everyone - what is this thing? If anyone has any more questions, let me know and I will check it out tonight and post my findings. Thanks!

Looks like my American Deluxe Model 700 (?) I think. Been a while since I looked at it. Top is the same with recessed globe holder. Steps in sheetmetal are the same.
Good luck finding bezels.

Morgan is correct, it is definitely an American. looks alot like the model in Benjamins old book on page 1. It appears to be the none ad glass model as the sight glass is very high up in pump. The taller version of this pump was available with a milk glass top with the ribs in it. Larry

T-Way, Heres some pix of my American Deluxe. These fancy bezels could probably be cast if you could find someone to do it. Mine is missing the globe holder cup. The opening is covered by a piece of tin. If you part out your pump, I'd be a buyer on that part. The doors could probably be made but the originals were stamped rather than made on a sheetmetal break. The stairsteps are very crisp where a break would give a sort of rolled look. The hose outlet on mine is a cast iron, square thing but in the same location as yours. I could not get to the ID tag to read the model but you can see some differences. The ad glass being the main one. I really believe this is a 700 but don't hold me to that. (CRS disease) [This message has been edited by Morgan (edited 05-19-2003).]

Thanks Morgan and everyone:
That is the only other pump I've seen that looks like the one I have. With the exception of the Ad Glass/Sight Glass location - it looks correct. Damm but thats a great looking bezel around the faces!
Okay everyone. Now that I know what I have - I need doors/parts. Seth? Dick? Anyone? What does anyone have that I can use? And would you be willing to trade/sell? Drop me a line or post your part here. I'll get back with you ASAP.
Jodi wants me to make this into a Display Case Pump like Larry Ivy's. If I don't find parts by the time I'm ready to tackle it (probably this fall) that's what I'll do.
The only major stumbling block to that plan is coming up with a 'finishing' piece to fill in under the top lip where the door would be and the side 'return' to the frame to finish it off to the front edge of the frame.
If I decide to go that route Morgan, I'll let you know and we can work a deal for the globe holder/hose outlet/etc.
Later . . .
Jim

Jim, is the top on your pump cast or stamped? Notice how mine is flat across the top (except the dent) and yours is curved.

Morgan:
My top is stamped with a crown/curve to it. My globe holder looks like it would still work on your pump as all you would have to do is remove the tin covering you have and insert the holder. I'm not sure how the holder attaches as I haven't dissassembled my pump yet. My holder is the same as my Neptune 855. So one of those would/should work for you pump.

The window frames on your and morgans pumps were made from the National A series moulds. They are exactly the pattern with the bottom steps duplicated at the top of the ad glass.
I know Ceative Castings can make these frames since I have had the A-1 frames recast before. They do them in a Zinc/Aluminum alloy that can be made to look very nice with a little hand work.
It wouldn't surprise me to find that most of the small pieces other than the sheetmetal were from other brand pumps such as sight glasses, bezels, etc. A common practice of small pump companies. I believe the neptune and ao smith pumps used a recessed globe holder that may work for Morg.

I have this same pump. I believe it is an American Beauty according to Jack's book.
I am looking to buy 2 doors, a top, and one site glass, and I will have a complete pump. Or, I will need to part this one out. I have two faceplates, two side panels, one site glass, and one frame and innerds.

T-way, You have a 900 series, but the face bezel was not as fancy as Morgan's [stairsteps top & bottom ]. Yours appears to have a light socket above the site glass for adv glass & light up the face.
Morgan, Isn't your pump about 5 1/2 ft tall? Kind of an inbetween size, taller than 5', but not 6'. Dick

Dick, It's right at 6', I'm 5'10 and it's just over my head. I can measure it next time I'm in there.
