I posted this the other day, but it went with some of the other postings into the unknown when the site broke. If anyone replied, please re-reply?? Does that make any sense?
Here is the question. I ran across a glass bodied globe with dodge brothers lenses. He wanted lots of $$$ for the globe. I am no globe expert at all, but I was under the belief that the dodge brothers lenses were fantasy. I cant find them in any of my books either. I didnt say anything to the guy, because I just dont know the facts, however I am curious.
Thanks, Ryan

Ryan, Automotive globes are extremely rare, but they do exist. Most originals are one piece. Metal and glass body versions exist too. I can't say for sure about the Dodge globe. Take a very good look at the notches and see how deep they are. If you're familiar with globes you'll recognize right away if they are for glass or capco. Also check the thickness of the lenses. Generally speaking lenses for glass are thicker than lenses for capco. They made those Dodge repop lenses a long time ago (1970's). I wouldn't buy any automotive lenses without knowing the history of where they came from. Keep in mind repro's could be over 30 years old. Bob

This one had a cracked lense also and was about 100 miles south of Superior WI. I went down there with Bob A. Im sure it is the same place that you were at. Thanks for the reply Bob. The notches were deep like on a capco lense, and they didnt look very old to me. The colors were real nice and the lenses were really shinny. This same guy had a huge thermometer for sale for around 2700.00. OUCH!!!
Thanks guys, Ryan
