Picked this Miller Peerless Mfg Co safety can at an antique store recently. Not previously familiar with the mfg co and its products but some Google searches indicate that the company started in 1887 in Chicago and is still in operation. Some products include fire extinguishers and related fire-fighting equipment.
Patent date on this can, which appears to be a gallon size, is 12-8-1914, which would tend to suggest a safety can for kerosene or other petroleum product used in the early 1900s.
Do any members or guests have any particular knowledge of this can? It's in excellent condition, well galvanized and without any dents. Top spout is brass and works perfectly. Am wondering if the can may have been originally painted, red for instance?
