I just sent my Fry 17 out to be media blasted and I have a question on a nearly rusted off bolt on the cast iron base. I've attached 2 photos showing the area in question. This is on the side of the pump handle. Was it some sort of handle lock? I plan to drill it out and re-tap it but I have no idea what is suppose to be there.

Any ideas or pictures of what should be there?

Hello John,
I have seen one with a lock. The one that I saw years ago had a spring loaded shaft that went through a slot in the handle and had a hole for a padlock. I have only seen that one.

I also restored a cast base one with the spring pin which locked the handle. Richard

Dave/Richard- thanks for your replies. I assumed it had to do with locking the pump handle. Any ideas where I could find one or even what to ask for? This is an early Fry 17 pump (all cast iron).

Thanks.....John

Catauladave suggested having someone, who has a Fry 17 like the one above, take a few pictures and some measurements so that I can look into having one made or attempt it myself.

It's back from the media blaster and is ready to prime, finish and paint.

Anyone out there willing to post some pictures?

Thanks.....John

Hi John. Here's what's on my Fry 17 pressed steel base. No tapped threads - it just mounts through a hole in the base & the spring lets you pull it out to insert the padlock. (BTW, I live down the road from you near Zelie.) Sam

Sam,

My wife and I were at your place in early 2012. You gave me a door panel for the Fry I have. Well, I'm just now getting back at it.

Would you mind if I stop down some evening for a closer look at the pin? It looks easy enough to duplicate.

We were just talking about trying to get to the Pottersville steam show only to find out we missed it (again). We plan to drive the Model A down for the October show weather permitting.

John
