I've removed the sight glass and housing from the pump as per photo. I made a spinner wrench (pictured on the right) to remove the retaining ring that hold the sight glass into the housing. I let it soak in penetrating oil overnight but they won't budge. I'm reluctant to use heat and crack the glass.
Question: It wouldn't be left hand threads?? would it.
Thoughts...
The reason I want to disassemble is for painting.
Thx

I've used PB blaster sells at most hardware or auto parts stores good penetrating and wick action along threads -- spray and let sit overnight for best results laroy

Thx. gents
I'll let it soak for a few days and then try again.
Thoughts on heating the housing or do you think the glass will crack. I'm not sure there are repops for this serial #, the sight glass is larger than most wayne 70's.
Is it possible a wayne 60 used the same sight glass size?

Victory!!
Several applications of penetrating oil, heat, and tapping with a hammer and cold chisel before using the spinner wrench........75+ years of rust came free.
Unbelievable how seized they were. The glass didn't break!

Kevin, What spinner wrench? I have been looking for one but only seem to find them for Wayne 60 nuts. Will the same one work? Thank You.

I'm not sure if the placement of the tabs in the retainer ring are the same on the 60 & 70's. I read a post that indicated that gaspumpheaven sells them, but I couldn't see any on their site.
It was easy to make. I welded two pieces of flat metal in a t-formation ( on edge) to a flat plate and then welded a nut to the plate for the socket to fit on.
Given the rust that was on my housing, it wouldn't have come without this wrench. It didn't slip at all as the spinner wrench was firmly locked into all four tabs.
I can pm you a close up of the tool if you need it for reference.

Kevin, My mistake! I was refering to the wrench that goes on the big nut to remove the sight glass assembly from pump. Have checked with gaspumpheaven and all i found was a removal tool for the Wayne 60 that has more nubs. Do not know if it will work. Suggestions anybody? Thanks.

I have worked on both recently an the 60 wrech does not work on the 70. Also the glass for the site glasses are different.
I have found that using a impact wrench makes the job much easier. I used a snap on electric impact wrench on 60 manifold recently. Both site glasses were stuck fast and weeks of soaking did not help. Its not just the torque of the impact wrench as much as the internal "hammers". They help loosen the rust that binds the threads.
Good luck.

My housing was stuck to the pump manifold as well, but after I removed the bolts I took a putty knife and hammered it in between the manifold and the housing. I worked my way around the housing to break the seal on the gasket. Have someone hold the sight glass as it could break free sooner than you expect.
I tried using a pipe wrench before this method, but it was seized too tight.

Also, on a difficult siteglass removal from a 60,remove the manifold from the pump completely and clamp it in a vise. Cranking on it in the pump could blow out the ever fragile cast shoulders. (Learned that one the hard way)
