Hagerty Classic is now offering Automobilia coverrage in addition to their collector car and marine programs. Have no information on pricing or coverage form but thinks it's great someone is coming to market with alternative programs.

There are alot of restrictions with their automobilia coverage. They will not cover a single item for more that $10,000, and they require an independant appraisal from a third party. I dont know about you guys, but I do not need or want someone else telling me what my stuff is worth. If they run the automobila division like they do their classic car division I would stay away from Hagerty. Should you ever have a clamim they are very hard to deal with. Just my two cents. Keith

Keith, Why do you say they're hard to work with if you have a claim? Can you share a personal experience? Who else would you recommend to ensure classic cars? Thanks a lot! Tara

As an agent & classic car owner. I not only represent, but have my cars insured with Hagerty and have never had a problem or complaint myself or on behalf of a few dozen customers. Their policy form is pretty restrictive and either you fit their program or you don't, but their service is steller. You have obviously never tried to insure a newly built kit car like a cobra. There are almost no carriers that will insure a home built kit car and even some reputable company built car. Their wood boat program is simply the best.
I again do not know anything about their automobilia program regarding underwriting, pricing or policy form. Just my experience with the carrier as a whole over a 10 year period.

I have my 427 cobra with them and have had no trouble. No claims either. Blastmaster is right about it being hard to ensure homemade cars, so the coverage I got at a set insured value of 50,000 made me happy at only 387.00 per year.

I can speak for the collector car insurance with Hagerty as I have had my policy with them for 10 years and all my experience has been excellent! Claims were quick and easy, and service is always top notch. They called a few months ago about the new collectibles insurance they offered but I decided to stick with Collectibles Insurance Agency.

Yes, I have personally had dealings with Hagerty. I fought with them and their underwriter for 4 months to settle a clain on my 33 chevrolet. I also can speek of at least three other instances where Hagerty has failed provide their customers with the services they paid for. Eneryone loves their insurance company until they have a claim, that is a fact. This is not the forum for me to discuss the problems I have had with Hagerty but feel free to e-mail me and I will tell you the whole story. I know that they are very respected in the collector car market, and I have used them for years with no problem, but I have never had a clan until now. I guess this dealing has just left a bad tast in my mouth, but I will never give Hagerty another dollar of my money. Thanks Keith

Good Morning Gentleman: I have had Hagerty for 8 yrs on 15 collector cars (except my 3 drag racing cars), I am on my own there. My wife has worked corporate for 30 yrs for one of the major ins companies in the US on the claims side. Their executive VPs recommended Hagerty 8 yrs. ago. We were riding in my 31 Cadillac 5 yrs ago, woman ran a red light, $20,000 damage (which is not that much on such a car). Agent came out in 2 days, let me call my own shop, they came, we settled on a price and the check was cut THAT DAY - TO ME AND THE SHOP. Most all of your MAJOR ins companies cut same day checks now. I highly recommend Hagerty and I might add the important thing is who are THEY backed by. Believe it or not all large ins companies are actually insured themselves by giant mostly international consortiums. Zurich International (which is huge and I might add still in business) is the backer of many companies including collectible autos and other collectible type insurance companies. Zurich is one of three backers Hagerty uses my wife found out, so money is not a problem if you have a high dollar loss, say a large fire. Sorry but go with a major not an independent or small company when doing business on large dollar amount collections or autos. An example: the restored Natl Duplex and NOS never mounted Natl. Simplex pump with original globes right inside my warehouse man door, would be enough that a small outfit would neither know or want to pay the amount of money I would feel these would be worth, especially the Simplex with one of the only known National brass bannana nozzles that exist. Would be interesting to know whom some of the large collectors like Ralph White with his rare sign collection are insured with but realize this is personal. Would be a very informative topic tho and very helpful to everyone. Maybe someone should start a thread. Guys, it's like a doctor, everyone has a different opinion, that's what makes the world go around. I will investigate the collectible end of Hagerty now that it is brought up as at the moment I have video and picture alblums of every car and collectible (of any worth) I own in several bank boxes and am insured with a major, with their knowledge of a 24 hr monitored fire alarm, smoke alarms, fire extinguishing material, and documentation. I also think in the other post about broken shipments, how one treats an agent makes a big difference. I have heard of many claims in 30 yrs from my wife where the man or woman starts out "Do you know who I am or how much I know or how much I am worth?" ect, just sets the tone for the rest of the transaction. Just my two cents worth, I am a college administrator and engineer, not an ins broker. I just listen and try to learn. Take care. Rob

When my 66 Mustang fastback flooded they sent me a check to cover the material and the work time for a shop (which I did myself). No complaints.
