I was just wondering, why are there two different versions of this sign. Witch version is older? I have seen the longer “do not spill” sign on many pumps from the twenties to the thirties. Which would be correct for a late thirties pump?

Also, when were these signs moved from the front of the pump to the sides? I’m trying to do an accurate resto so I figured this was the place to ask.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ryan, I did a seach and came up with mote than 40 answers - in one of them Gary Drye replied this:
"This is taken from a PCM article on the signs.
From roughly 1926-1935 the signs were 8" x 7". From 1935 to the '70s the 6" x 7" were used. From 1925-35 these signs were available in flat or curved versions. Also, water transfer decals were used during this time period.
An example is given for a Wayne #615 visible and the article suggests the longer sign with the extra writing about "avoid spilling".
I have had many of the short Gulf pumps from the early 1960's and everyone of them has the "anti-knock compounds" lettering. So I assume these are later versions."

regards,
Claes

I need an adhesive B&W paper or vinyl decal that says:
"For Use A Motor Fuel Only...Contains Lead.....Antiknock Compounds"

I'd like to find a useable USED one that shows wear.If not,are the originals still available today,or can I buy them in reproduction?..if so on either, where do I get them?

I am looking for a curved 8x7 version if anyone has one. I just returned from DesMoines and did not spot one.
