I recently purchased the above book and called Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint Store and Home Paint Stores and neither had a match or a cross reference for the paint code offered in the book for White #1551. Specifically Mobilgas White, but the code is used over numerous brands listed. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks

Yes, Sherwin Williams redid their paint numbers about 12 years ago when they phased out their old system. Contact someone at the auto paint store that will call the factory. But as I have posted before some of the colors have no true crossover to a current number. many got phased out so I useally find an off white thats close to what I'm looking for. I refinish vehicles with SW at my shop and even with all the people I know at SW, I have pump colors that I have to make up.
Thanks Mike

I contacted Scott Benjamin one of the authors and he stated to call Vics66 or Gas Pump Heaven for help. I did and they were not sure why they were referenced as they do not sell paint. No clue...

The PPG code for that 1551 SW white is 815. I've used it on several white projects. You can go to www.carpaintonilne.com and they have a crossover search engine by paint mfg that works on a lot of those old SW numbers in that book , but not all of them. I also have had some luck with my local NAPA guy getting some crossovers for me as MartinSenour is Sherwin Williams paint. You just gotta find someone willing to help.....GB
