I recently purchased a Southwest gas pump which I belive is a 812 and was wondering if anyone has any photos of a restored 812. I read that these were mostly sold to Gulf and was wondering what other companys used them.

Fellas,

I live in McKinney and have a buddy that live in a small town just south of Bonham. I could have him ask some neighbors/old-timers. Sounds like a road trip and a walk in the country!

Road Trip!!

I live in Paris, 45 miles east and work at a hospital in Bonham.

Years ago the SW Pump Co was bought by another pump mfg. (I forget who right now) and later closed. I'm not sure what occupies the buildings now but will ask around.

There is a monthly trades day here in Bonham but very little petro stuff turns up. You'd think there would be more.

Side story: when SW got out of the visible parts business many years ago, they sold the remaining glass cylinders to the general public @ $5.00 a copy. In the late 70s and early 80s we ran ads in the local paper (also defunct) and bought several of these still in boxes. Probably more out there too.

Hey Morgan!

Yeah you would think there would be quite bit of that stuff around Bonham. Strange.

My buddy is opening a photography studio in downtown trenton and needs some "props" I am thinking of donating a gas pump to the cause. Would be kinda kewl to have the local flavor of a *southwest* pump.

Just noticed that Bonham is exactly half way between Paris and McKinney. You probably know a good diner or two with good coffee and biscuits, right?

I am available Sunday for a roadtrip/meet if anyone wants to meet up in Bonham. I am looking forward to seeing a completed restoration or even meeting someone that doesn't "haul a gas pump around for ten years for no apparent reason". You can only guess who made that comment! Two guesses, but her initials are W-I-F-E.

I am headed to McKinney Trade Days about 10AM this morning. I am not sure what I will find but it should be interesting anyway. If anyone is planning on going also, post a reply and I will email you my cell phone to meet up.

take care.

Hey Cycle, After exchanging a few emails and a very interesting conversation with Mr. Bruce I found out there are no goodies or remanents to be found at the old South West plant. I visited trade days in Mckinney and found very little that caught my eye. I am getting very excited about the up comming swap meet at the raceway in march. If you are looking for a certian SW pump or a bit of good Sw conversation give Ken a call he might be able to help you. Oh and by the way HEY KEN HOWS THAT WAYNE 70 YOU GOT LAST WEEKEND? Give me an email some times in that I want to talk about taking ont of those SW refrigerator pumps off your hands.

Safticycle,

I was up towards Bonham on Saturday but never made it by the old plant. My buddy's wife cuts my hair and my four-year-old and two-year-old girls just *had* to go along. Well, by the time I got done with the haircut, they were ready to go home... I mean *really* ready! ra, ra RA, ra, ra aaaaaand RAAAAA. You get the picture. My buddy said he would ask around to see if there were any old-timers that might remember a little history of the place. I didn't have much luck at the Trade Days on Sunday either. Lots of mini RC cars, Tater Tornadoes and missing teeth but no petroliana. My telecom company is in the middle of the economic downturn so they are asking those who have extra vacation time to take it now. Soooo, I will be taking the next few weeks off (two are already mandatory). I will be working on getting my first restoration towards completion and looking for the next project.

Big Thanks to Keith in Iowa for the responsiveness, help and nice parts!!
