I finally unstuck all three pricing mechanisms on my computer. I had the running wheels and gears freed months ago (cleaned with Simple Green and WD40). At the time I gave up on the price mechanisms as permanently broken/jammed. I just added a can opener motor, and thought I would give pricing one last try.
Turns out the pivots were just REALLY gummed up. As a last resort, I just tried some Liquid Wrench and vigorous prying, and they worked free.
Question - What is the best cleaner for that gummy black varnish stuff? The liquid wrench worked great, but should it be rinsed out somehow? Then what should be sprayed in there to keep the mechanisms clean and free? Is WD40 ok?

The best cleaner I found was plain old laquer thinner/enamel reducer. The actual Veeder-Root manuals tell you to use Tetraethylene - but that stuff will kill you if you breath/injest toomuch of it.

Just make sure to work in a well ventilated space and wear your respriator - not just a dust mask.

Afterwards, WD-40 or a light machine oil will keep everything moving.

Next question. One side's set of gallons wheels is out of allignment by about half a digit. Is there an easy way to adjust this?

Re-adjust the side gear for re-alignment [loosen the 2 screws & slip gear 1 or 2 teeth should do it].
