Hello, I was hoping some of you guys over there in the USA could help me!! I just purchased a great 1 Gallon Kangaroo oil company tin but the top of the can has been squashed a little on 1 side, which has left a small dint just under the top on the corner.
Any ideas on how to "pull up" the dint would be appreciated.
I have also heard that if you fill the can with water and freeze it, the tin expands and dints are removed. Is this true?
Thanks
The handy oiler

The freezing might work but would have to be watched closely. I have talked to a guy that collects & sells quart cans & he says if the quarts are still sealed he puts them in the oven at 275 for about 30-45 min. He says when the oil heats up & expands it will pop the dents out. It will also depend on how bad the medal is dented or crinkled. Hope this helps

I have been thinking of building a tool to help do this.

Basically a clamp that grabs the lip then you can pull up on it to pull back the low area, it way take a few pulls.

Basically 2 pieces of flat bar, with a groove in each slightly smaller than 1/2 the
rolled edge. Position on each side, then clamp together, then pull on that.

To make this for Quarts will be a lot tougher..

I use my air compressor on some cans to pop out dents. Its works pretty good.

Freezing with water is risky, might blow out the side or end.

Heating in oven might pop out the dent[s], but might also pop back in after cooling.

Pulling as Dodo says, might have to pull 3 ways CORRECTLY.

BEST way for me is to remove the end closest to dent, remove the dent & re-lid.
