Ok here is a question for all the true Gas pump walking encyclopiedias. My wife wants to decorate our upcoming sons room with gas and oil stuff. She also wants to put a restored pump in there that has been made into a bookshelf inside. The pump MUST have hindged doors so the little one can get his books in and out of it. I am thinking that is going to limit me to the 50's pumps such as a Tokhiem 39, GB 96, Wayne 70 types. I am looking for a really stylish pump though. Anyone have any pumps to recomend? Does a Rush clockface have hindged doors? Any other clockfaces?? Thanks for any help. ------------------ Scott www.frontrangegas.com

A 700 series Bennett or an MS 80 have the widest opening hindged doors. If I were doing one I would probably pick an MS 80 because you can make them open real wide.

I like the Wayne 60, I had forgot about that one. On the MS 80 the only problem is the inside latch. I guess I should have added that the latch being on the outside would be a huge plus.

Hi Scott the tokheim 300 and National A-1 have outside latches too, but the Wayne 60 would probably work best. Richard

I DID A WAYNE 60 THAT HAD NO HINGES, BUT I CONVERTED IT WITH A $14.00 STAINLESS PIANO HINGE FROM A LOCAL HARDWARE STORE.. IT WORKED GREAT.. I USED A SMALL MAGNET AS A "LATCH",, AND A COOL KNOB OUT OF AN OLD CAR FOR THE HANDLE TO OPEN IT.. ANY PUMP WITH A FLAT PANEL CAN HAVE THIS DONE TO IT.. ITS FUN,, AND EASY.. I MADE MINE INTO A BOOZE STORAGE PUMP .. BUT THAT WON'T WORK FOR YOUR SONS ROOM L.O.L!! ME AND MY FRIENDS ARE BUILDING A TOKHEIM 300 INTO A HOTWHEELS DISPLAY CABINET,, NO DOORS , JUST A SHELL WITH GLASS SHELVES. IT WILL BE BLUE WITH SILVER FLAMES.. GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SONS PUMP.. T-BONE..

Scott , do some measuring on the short pumps. the face window so you can place a small T.V. in the opening on a shelve. you can use U bolts on the frame to place your shelves for books at different leavels. wire it for a globe and a small light to look for his books. the door use magnetis tap and not the real locking mec. Bowser 575, Tok 39, national a 62 ,64. you can even make the face window larger for a bigger T.V for when she makes you sleep in there with him. ha ha . do it in Speedway Gas & Oil. buy tickets for the set of lenses that will be raffled off. hint hint, wink wink. ------------------ Dwaine. pca-west.org Home of jlgas Vintage-logos [This message has been edited by Dwaine Buck (edited 02-13-2005).]

Scootdog. St Rod has a Southwestern 45 that he said he wanted to sell. You might want to contact him. Its very similar to a tall Tokheim 39. My SW 45 has an entertainment system installed. Works nice. BTW, I met your old neighbor Art the other day.

How do you mount glass shelves on an angle iron frame? Is it necessary to drill holes for the brackets, or is there some sort of clamp-on fitting that works? thanks

If I were going to put glass shelves in a pump frame, I would surely drill and bolt a bracket system. I would, however, take this whole project one step further and build a nice enclosed showcase with only the top and front opened. This would give a great finish to the cabinet and mounting brackets could be screwed directly into the back or sides.
