A COUPLE WEEK'S AGO, THIS GUY I KNOW FROM ONE OF MY MODELS WORKS FOR A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN A NEARBY TOWN. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN IN THIS LOCATION FOR ABOUT 50+ YEARS AND WAS A CHEVROLET DEALER BEFORE DODGE FOR AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF YEARS.
HE SAID HE WAS BORED ONE DAY IN THE SHOP AND GOT TO ROOTIN' AROUND IN THE ATTIC OF ONE OF THE BUILDINGS WHERE STUFF HAD BEEN STORED FOR MANY YEARS.
I GOT A CALL FROM MY FRIEND SHERRY WHO MENTIONED MIKE HAD FOUND SOME OLD OIL CANS IN THE ATTIC AT WORK...WOULD I WANT THEM? AT THIS TIME THERE WAS NO MENTION OF WHAT THE CANS WERE OR HOW MANY. I TOLD SHERRY IF MIKE WANTED TO LEAVE THE CANS WITH HER, I COULD STOP BY AND PICK THEM UP AT HER PLACE.
SHE CALLED ME THIS PAST SATURDAY SAYING SHE HAD THE CANS AND COULD I COME AND GET THEM IN THE NEXT 5 MINUTES....I TOLD HER 10 AND SHE HAD A DEAL.
I REALLY HAD TO CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT WHEN SHE POINTED TO THESE FOUR OLD CARDBOARD CASES
ON HER GARAGE FLOOR!
ALL THE CASES ARE FROM AT LEAST 50 YEARS AGO AND HAD 24 QUARTS IN EACH ORIGINALLY. I COOLY LOADED THE EMPTY CASES OF CAN IN MY CRUISER AND SAID "THANK YA" AND WAS ON MY WAY.
ONCE HOME, I CLEANED THE CANS UP FOR THE PICS BELOW.
TURNS OUT THERE WERE A TOTAL OF
84 EMPTY QUART CANS...ALL OPENED ON TOP AND RATHER ODDLY (CANNIBALIZED).

A TOTAL OF 63 VEEDOL (MIXED) QUARTS:

ALSO WERE 16 QUAKER STATES AND 5
GULFS:

AND THE STRANGE WAY THESE CANS WERE OPENED:

ALL I CAN SAY IS....YA GOTTA LOVE WHAT SOMEBODY DID 50 YEARS AGO
FOR THE BENEFIT OF ME TODAY. MIKE ACTUALLY KEPT A CASE FOR HIMSELF
OF VEEDOLS SAYS HE'S GONNA MAKE STUFF WITH THE CANS WHICH WERE
MOSTLY DENTED AND SCRATCHED ANYWAY!

IT WAS DEFINATELY A PICK-ME-UP FOR SATURDAY THAT'S FOR SURE!

Those are HEX marks in the top..bad CARma!! bad for you to be around!!

Offer them to your Oldgas buds right away for 5.00 ea plus shipping and the danger of the large quantity of Hexed tins in your precense will be reduced quickly !!

Thats why they had to hide them in the attic!!

Buy the dude a present, and get him to look some more, methinks!!

THANKS, GUYS FOR THE ATTA-BOY OVER MY FALL INTO THE GOOD STUFF.
I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT 80% OF THE CANS ARE IN COND. 9 OR BETTER!
OTHERS HAD THE SCRAPE FROM THE SPOUT OR OTHER DINGS AND DENTS!
AND YES, I DID DROP BY DODGE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND GAVE MIKE A $50 HAND SHAKE! HE WOULDN'T TAKE IT.....SO I WRASSLED HIM INTO THE PIT AND MADE HIM TAKE IT. HE SAID HE'D KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR OTHER STUFF....AND I KNOW THERE'S PLENTY OF OLD BUILDINGS ON THIS DEALERSHIP'S SITE! THEY EVEN HAVE A PRETTY NICE PORC SIGN SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT DODGE #1
RIGHT ON A BUILDING IN THE LOT FACING THE ROAD! IT'S GOTTA BE 40+ YEARS OLD! MAKES YA WONDER!
I'M STILL IN 7TH HEAVEN OVER THE WHOLE ORDEAL!

SCOTT - I KNEW THIS QUART CAN STORY WOULD BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE ESPECIALLY!

Here are a couple of signs Butch Greer picked up at the Iowa gas auction. Nice signs Butch. $1210 for the Sinclair and $990 for the Barnsdall and that includes buyers penalty.

Here's some old gray dude with the two Gilbert & Barker 176's I bought at Iowa Gas. Nothing like the feeling of getting your hands on a nice pair! Was it worth driving 4000 miles for? Oh yeah!

Bought some cans too. You see cans like these about once every two or three years on ebay. The Roxanna Shell is really rare.

And I had to extend myself a bit to get this globe. Sure, it has some flaws but it looks perfect when lit up and on my shelf. Walt Feiger worked with me on this until we could agree on a price. He's a great guy and had some unreal globes for sale. Ask him about his license plate collection if you ever get a chance to talk to him.

Vern

Vern, The one booth with all of the gallons and 1/2 gallons was awesome. You never see that many old cans in one place. He sold a ton of them in a hurry. Here is a sampling for those who did not attend.
