Got a question on restoring my texaco pole. I have blasted the pole and it is primered already too. I had to go ahead and primer it because I thought that it might rust. Now there are a lot of pits in the sign that need bondo or something. Can use bondo over the primer or will i have to get the primer off first. I sure do not want to blast this thing again. you can put bondo over primer. I have seen it done many times,But preparation is the most important part. I wouldnot reblast , I would use a small air grinder with a 24 grit disc and grind the pitted area, then use a dye grinder with a wire brush to get the primer out of the pits, then skim the pits with your plastic(bondo). that would be a better job that should last for years to come.I see people put plastic over primer all the time. I think it is a bad practice. plastic is for bare metal. Mike

NOPE your OK, they have catalised spot puddy like stuff you can use over paint & primer. AND i mean they have "several" different brands of this stuff now, i was in the paint store the other day & they have regular bondo, regular bondo thats ground finer & sucks itself right into super fine sanding scratches & sands real EZ, they have catalised glaze, .....on & on, plastic tubes, cans, brands ive never heard of etc...i was just plain confused! ---- SO head for the paint/bondo store, tell em what your doing, what primer you layed on it & youll be set up for about 12 bucks!!!!!!

i walked away for a sec before i sent my post & DrDent beat me to the punch! hes right. i usually do the mud work, seal it then prime & block away!
although like he said its done alot, ive done it on occasion with great results.
