FROM A LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD...

well i posted this a few years back.when i was near last year i missed it and thought it had been sold.but today it was right where it has been for a long time
ironic thing is that this pump and the land it sits on used to be owned by one of my customers.he sold it in 1990.i didnt know about it until at least 12 years later.oh well.did stop and talk to the mom of the guy who owns it now and gave her my contact info again.maybe someday he'll part with it.another shot

Mick, cool looking pump. Looks like it's doing him a lot of good sitting in those weeds. Go flash a couple hundred in his face or trade some of your HVAC services. Hope you get it.

I was going to save these for next month but things have really slowed down on this thread so......

This little gem I knew about for several years but really never understood what I was looking at......partly because it's been some time since my last visit to this area and partly because I was not knowlegeable. Only because of this thread and my local history project have I become a little wiser.

This little dream is actually for sale (we considered it, but a new roof is more important right now) This is circa 1910 and according to the owner it was the first Sunoco station in PA. Over the years it was moved to a new site with the sign and pumps. Later the property was sold to new owners and the old owners took the pumps leaving what you see. Apparently this can all be confirmed through a local publication done by the local historical society. It is roughly 8 or 9 ft deep and 12-14 feet wide. It's exterior is all galvanized metal with mostly wood frame walls and floor. The window frames are metal as well and overall it's in amazing condition. The sign is porcelain although time has not been kind. It's 2 sided but is around 3 inches deep and fits over and around the poll. The roof has unique water drainage as there is a channel built into the roof that collects and diverts the water around to the back corners where there are 2 down spout openings. This neat little feature is hidden from ground level abservation. All of the yellow and blue decorative blocks are porcelain covered metal. Truely a beautiful building and very cool construction.

Cool station. I've seen some of those pictures but never close ups of the sign. I have that sign with the holes to the left of the S and right of the O but don't have the arrows. So if someone has this sign and can trace the shape (size) of the arrows I would appreciate it. Thanks John

When I first inquired the other day, the sign was what I was asking about knowing the last time it wasn't for sale. To my surprise it is....just not seperate from the station.

That Sunoco station is incredible. I saw it when it was for sale on eBay, but never so many good, close-up pictures and interior pictures. I sure wish it wasn't so far away - it would look good in my backyard!

What did he want for the station now?

Hope you're sittin' down Wes......Upon inquiry, he wanted $20,000 for the pair but said that was negotiable!

Wow! I didn't remember it being THAT much... Seems like I remember it being more like $5000. Maybe the reserve wasn't met and that was just the starting bid? Or maybe I'm "mis-remembering."

Anyhow, even though it is super-cool, I'm sure it will sit there for a very long time at that price.
