Aw, come on Dick....Cars run on gas and this is an oil and gas site. (LOL) I had two generations of family (cousins) in Detroit that worked for GM (Pontiac. I think the bottom line is that American Car producers missed out on the fuel economy and lost market share. The first Hondas I was exposed to was in 75. It was tin-like, but got great mileage and the guy owned it forever. Gas was moving from 37 cents to a $1.00 by 79. Wages were not moving that fast. I bought a Honda Prelude in 80 becasue I used my car for work and only made $12,000 a year. It was pure econimics and it was a good car. The Chevy Citation was lousy and the Ford Taurus....forget about it. What else was there? Comsequently we got used tothem and my wife and I owned a few. We owned American made along the line. But, we always bought cars based on what we needed it for. Not to support the car industry. We have now owned 5 Suburbans/Yukons since 89. I still drive my 95 Ford to work. Bought it becuase I needed a truck andit was the best price. My son's first car is a 98 Honda. Solid and dependable. To me, the last innovative car that was US made was the Chrysler Mini Van. Iacoca sold a ton of them. Ford and GM can keep making the Mustangs and retro looking things. But, they aren't for the masses and they need something to get back the market share.
