The pump was stolen sometime last night in the town of Harrington about 50 miles west of Spokane.
Harrington is a small town of just under 500 people and the pump was bolted down in front of a house by the sidewalk.
It was painted black with a large white globe on top......... not a gas globe..... it just looked like a big white ball.
The pump was complete and in good shape just missing the handle and the light covers on the top.
The Deputy would like to know about how much one of those things weighs.
If any of you guys in the PNW hear anything about it please call:

509-725-3501 Lincoln County Sheriff's Office
509-253-4554 Mike is the owner
509-721-0645 Me

Thanks,
bob

Dick...you've forgotten more about pumps than I'll probably ever know, but the last few Romans I've done took 2 guys just to lift the top half onto the tube. I'd say a Roman is an easy 400-450lbs.

What a shame that anyone should have to worry about something like that. I probably would have never put a $10,000 pump outside, but it's still sad to hear that something like that could happen.

I hope they catch the felon(s), and prosecute him/them to the fullest extent of the law.

Make sure to watch ebay and all the local auction houses.

What a shame. I wonder if they know how valuable it is or if they "just stole a pump." Will keep an ear open here in Montana.

About 4-5 years ago, a Roman was stolen from and elderly woman in West Tulsa, OK. Apparently the thieves just backed-up in the middle of the night loaded and drove off. The pump served as a yard light for the woman and her deceased husband.

Bob,
Does the woman have any pictures of the pump you can post. I am sure it will get a new coat of paint when it comes up for sale but trying to find it now pics would be great.

I'll keep my eyes out for it down here. I knew another guy in the Spokane area had two pumps stolden, they showed up at the Arlington swap meet, but they were common pumps and he couldn't prove that they were his. I've started making Id marks on the frames of my pumps, it's a shame that it has come to that. Richard

I will also keep my eyes/ears open. Unfortunately, because of the visibility of being in the 'gas pump' biz, a lot of stolen stuff like this ends up being offered to us for sale via e-mail or the telephone. I bet I've written 10 statements to Police/Sheriff/FBI in the last 2-3 years. I actually bought a Roman one time that was hot, which I didn't know at the time. I bought & sold it the same day, heck within 3 days I didn't even have it in my possession anymore. I had to call my customer and tell him not to do anything with the pump, because the OSBI had contacted me & blah, blah, blah. Anyway, a few months later, OSBI says they think it was a set-up by the owner to collect insurance on the Roman & also part of the proceeds from the sale to me. Long story short, I got to keep my money & my customer got to keep his pump. It's a crazy world we live in.

Thanks for the help guys..... I told the officer between 400 and 500 lbs.
I looked at the sight today and it was bolted down by 2 one half inch bolts on a cement pad....... they stripped off the first nut cause the threads were rusty and then it looked like they tilted the pump until the second bolt broke..... and they just cut the wire that went to the light on top.

The family didn't collect any petro stuff they just took it off their farm and set it up in town for a yard light........ it was just inside the sidewalk that runs parallel to the road in front of the house, so you could have backed up a pick-up right to it...... it had been there for over 20 years....... so when the dad put it out there who would have ever guessed it would be worth that kind of $$$$$$.

You would think that one guy probably had it already to go before they even backed up a truck to get it....... it wouldn't take that long to tip it into a truck and take off with it.

I've got a picture of it, but our scanner doesn't work....... I'll try to get someone to upload it for me........ all I can tell you is that it had no signage on it and was painted flat black and previously it was painted CAT yellow... as in the tractor, so the yellow is starting to show through where the black is fading off.

The owner is going to post a stolen pump add on CL for the different surrounding areas.

Thanks again for your help,
bob

As sick as it makes me to hear this, how sick would we all be if we also found out it went to a scrap yard to feed a crack-heads habit?
